United Airlines B777 Seating - How good is it?

We're flying to the US in July. Apparently UAL is now operating, or will be operating B777s and retiring its B744s.

Last year we flew to London with Emirates. Two sectors were on B777s and a more miserable trip could not be had, I reckon. So, I'm afraid that UAL's B777s may be the same, at least in economy.

Its premium economy seating on the 747s was nothing to write home about, other than a little extra legroom which offered no tangible benefits, so we're wondering what PE is like on the new aircraft.

If anyone is familiar with this I'd love to hear from you.

United don't have PE, they have extra legroom sold as Economy plus.

Yeah, that's what I love about UA. Four abreast in Business! They look like little coffins, don't they?

Being 9 across in economy in United they beat Emirates for comfort especially if you can get economy plus. They do have personal tv screens which is an improvement over the united 747

9 seats abreast in Y makes it a more normal config for long haul. I have large shoulders and unfortunately I'm sure nobody enjoys being seated next to me in Y...I have never tried 10 seats abreast in a 777 and hopefully never will!!! For my comfort and the comfort of the poor fellow seated next to me...

... and VA along with BA do 7 ...

The UA business sets are different as groups of 8 in the middle and 4 at the windows face each other.

Note that the 20" width compares favorably with many of the major airlines:

AC do 4 across the entire cabin, as opposed to UA 4 across just between the aisles. Of course AC is a chevron arrangement, so everyone has aisle access

My OP was a tad pre-mature. My wife just booked us on VA to LAX and Delta to JFK (codeshare).
She booked us premium economy seats for the BNE-LAX sector and standard economy on the other flights.

To Markis10, I refered to United's Economy Plus as "PE" as I didn't know the exact term.

Whatever, the thread is pretty well redundant from my perspective.

Hopefully VA's PE seating is comfortable. 2-4-2 seating sounds roomier, seats an inch or so wider than the miserable torture chairs that Emirates has on its B777s and I believe that VA's have foot rests ala recliners...

VAs PE is pretty comfortable, did 8 hours Sunday week ago in 12K. I would pack a bigger pillow though.

Markis, where did you fly? Apparently VA has different PE configs for its 777s depending on the routes? For example, we're supposed to be sitting in leather seats on our BNE-LAX sector (and god knows what the fruit crates are like on Delta's B737 from LAX-JFK)...

VA only have five aircraft and I doubt they change? I flew VOZ KUL AUH.

Unless you are both under about 160cm, avoid row 10 as you will be unable to extend your feet in that row.

As for the footrest, your legs need to be relatively short to get any effective use out of it.

Is Row 10 PE, still? If so, shouldn't they have the same seating as the rest of the class, given that whoever is sitting there has paid the same premium as other PE pax?

There is a bulkhead there, which restricts legroom. The seat is the same.
