United to Fly to Adelaide

Slight update to this,

UA only just uploaded the 2nd SFO, but is now downgauged to a 772 and is operating on a shorter season from early December, starting off at 3x weekly (ramping to daily from Dec 17) until March when it starts winding down frequencies.

The year round UA863/870 is also getting downgauged to a 772 for NW25/26 per the UA booking engine directly.

The 2nd SFO previously operated for the entire NW season but has been cut back for the upcoming NW season with a smaller aircraft (assumedly in light of the lower than expected loads and are 'right sizing').
Is the 772 a step down in product and service compared to the 787/77W?

It is amazing that so many airlines service international routes to ADL but not QF (yet)
Of course it would be nice to have QFi here but in reality we are still only a secondary port and I can’t think of too many routes where QF would be profitable from ADL.
SIN probably being the obvious one but SQ has earnt its stripes and many locals here appreciate that and I’m not sure how successful QF would be in a head to head battle.
Maybe a NZ route could work but I’m just not sure where else

Basically UA recently finished refurbishing their international 772s (77E) not long ago (both the pre-CO and pre-UA fleets).
The only 772 sub-fleet left at UA is the Domestic/Hawaii/Short Haul international Y heavy config.

The international 77Es are basically the same as the 77Ws but with less Y seats and a slightly smaller Polaris J (50 seats on the 77E instead of 60 on the 77W)

Air NZ fly ADL AKL
QFi could fly ADL-SIN so pax could connect to QF1 SYD-SIN-LHR. But nothing in for Air Sydney (aka as Qantas) when they can get pax to SYD to get on QF1 and other flights

Geography doesn’t help ADL. Can’t really use it as QFi hub as it’s not on the way to OS from elsewhere in Oz. So thin point to point has to work. Yet, there aren’t even JQ ops to DPS, SIN (with 3K connections) etc 🤷‍♂️

JQ fly ADL-DPS, JQ125 and JQ127
