Only ever been Op-Up'ed once. Flying with Cathay, from Hong Kong to Delhi. Iw as in Y but they must've oversold and as I was QF Gold at the time they bumped me up to Business at the gate.

As a member of QFF and now a new member of the QANTAS club - is that position likely to change or am I simply marked to be unlucky on upgrades?

Its unlikely you will get an op-up as a QF QP, let alone any other QF QP. Its not being unlucky at all, its just how the entire upgrade program is.QF will try to their best to upgrade those who want to pay for it first (ie use points) and make some money out of it, rather than giving something away for nothing.

With respect to points upgrade, as NM advised about op-ups chances, it is similar to points upgrade and a whole range of factors come into play that decide who gets upgraded first. However if I am speaking to a lay person about upgrading, I just tell them they are placed on an upgrade list, and that the the higher their QF status is the higher on that list they are. Its much easier this way.

Dont expect it.Sometimes miracles happen.I did get upgraded NAN-SYD when I was just a QP-but it was many years ago.I did get an upgrade to J SYD-ADL~but that was 4 years ago and I had OWE status on AA.That year also got 3 op ups J-F on CX.
When I first joined AA the 2 of us got an opup J-F even though no status,on Aawards and were already in our J seats.

My last (and only) op-up was over 6 years ago KTA-PER. Never had an op-up on international.

In fact I had an op-down from J to Y on a SYD - PER flight for myself and wife some 10 years ago with QF.

I am WP/PG, LTG with 85% of flights on QF, so I have really upset the upgrade gods.

On the plus side, worst delay was 13 hours for a PER-MEL onone of the old 747's. My baggage has been annoying delayed or sent to the wrong city, but never lost (touch wood, touch wood, touch wood, touch wood, touch wood, throw salt over shoulder).

I am WP and previously been WP for two years, SG for a few years and have never ever had an upgrade despite my charming disposition. Maybe I should spend less time flying MEL-ADL (90 segments a year)?
