Handy way to top up AA, 20000 SPG for $525 USD becomes 25000 AA or Even UA miles.

I was tempted to post this in the AA thread rather than this one. I wonder how many AFFers buy SPG miles to redeem for hotel stays vs transfer to AA/UA?

Better value than the current AA promotion which works out at $585 for 24000 pts when you include the $35 processing charge. May take this and wait for the next 60 + 30 promotion from AA.

When transferring SPG points to say AA, does the transaction have to be in a multiple of 500 starpoints?

Website talks about a minimum but no mention about multiples. I am a preferred member and currently have 38 points that I want to transfer so that my eventual balance is zero! Trying to do a test transfer now (obviously can't do it due to the minimum) but you just enter the number..

There is no minimum Starpoint transfer requirement for Platinum members with most airlines. Gold members have a minimum transfer requirement of 1,500 Starpoints, and Preferred members have a minimum transfer requirement of 2,500 Starpoints.

Any idea how long it takes for SPG points to transfer to AA?

Recent example, Monday 4Pm BNE time put a request in, was in my AA account around the same time yesterday with the 5k bonus.

I bought 2 x 20000 to meet a minimum spend on a credit card , will transfer to AA eventually .

Well my last transfer to SPG was a record.Transferred 40000 points on 31/10 QLD time and 50000 points arrived in my AA account 31/10 US time.

Diners weren't as bad either.transferred several lots of 3000 DC points at the same time as the SPG transfer and they arrived at SPG on 11/11.

Answering my own question, yesterday I transferred 20,038 SPG points to AA and got a 5,000 point bonus. It is just shy of 24 hours since transferring and they haven't arrived yet but I'm guessing it will be soon.

Checked tonight and they have now posted (25,038 all as one transaction). This morning they had not posted. Of note is that is says "transaction pending" on the description which is the same for two other transactions - some AA miles (regular plus bonus as a second entry) purchased a couple of days ago.

I went to buy some points this afternoon and it says you can get 25% discount until 31 December 2013.
