I had to fly DJ as the free Amex flight needs to be on DJ metal.
You are correct. I was actually getting confused as when we took the Amex flight the flight was booked as a DJ flight but was flown by an AirNZ A320 as DJ was short of airframes.

But I was always under the impression that the trans-tasman birds were not going to be refitted for the reason i've already noted.

My experience matches yours haydensydney. I took a DJ Y+ flight back in March and asked the crew when J would be an option. I was told the deal with NZ precluded them from upgrading the cabins to J.

Sorry if this thread has been brought up in another thread or answered differently. Has anybody seen or have photos of the so called new updates to the cabin on VANZ planes or are they identical to the VA Australian planes. I understand that the seating in Y+ is 3 x 3 but configured 2 x 2 like the old DJ Y+. I am off to RAR in May and I am curious on the setup. In not watch this space in May...

I flew on a NZ registered one from Brisbane to Nadi late last year and it still had the red recaro converible seats in the first 3 rows in the old Y+ configuration of 3 x 3. I asked the CS at the time and she believed that the NZ ones were not being upgraded at all. I haven't been on one since to verify this.

I recall perhaps a contractual issue with the NZ partnership preventing it.. but who knows in reality. Certainly the last trip of mine (six months ago perhaps) had the old seats.

During roadshows done by JB and team in 2011 they apparently stated to staff that VANZ would not be getting J class. Let's hope this is a decission that comes up for revision in the near future.

I don't think this will be changing as it was agreed as part of the trans-Tasmania alliance to ensure the VA and NZ planes offer comparable products. So the VZ Premium Economy product is comparable to the NZ Works Plus product.

if anything the VA PE seats are better than the Works Plus ones
