QF will first do an upgrade of points for people (and some op-ups) around the -24hr mark, this is done when they have alot of oversold seats in Y and W.. When this is done they leave atleast another 5 or so seats oversold in Y, as this is usually around the no-show average. If those passengers turn up they will upgrade at check-in close, and this is based on status/fare class.

Won't matter if you're there 5hrs or 30min before the flight departs. Upgrades will be done only based on status and fare class. At the moment, there are many WP's and CL's above the SG's, so no chance really of getting an free upgrade (op-up).

So you can check how many WP's and CL's are there in waiting. can you?

Looks like i have 0 chance than. What about getting a PE seat?

I'll have a look at the flight today when i get to work, and will post what i see tonight..

QF29 5th September: F3 A3 J2 C1 D2 I0 W0 R0 T0 Y2 B2 H0 K0 M0 L0 G0 E0

QF30 10th September: F7 A7 J9 C9 D9 I9 W1 R1 T0 Y9 B9 H9 K9 M9 L9 V9 S9 N9 Q9 G0 E0

QF29 5th Sept 2010:
Y = -4
W = -14
J = 9
P = 9

For Y class there are 14 WP's and 3 CL's on that flight, so if you are Gold. There will be next to no chance of getting an Op-Up.

However, this does indicate there still a chance for a points upgrade, depending upon how many of those WP/CL are in an upgradeable class and have requested an upgrade.

QF a question if I may

When does the QFF number come into play, before the ticket class or after?

SO if you had for instance two WP's, same class, say S, then the lower QFF number would go forward if only one could, assuming it was a 'system' genrated decision?

Cheers

Normally they say that try to be at airpot as late as you can rather than early to get a op-up. Also on my way back on QF30 i am booked on B class. Can you access EF or some other tool to see what the load is. I am returing on 10th

Let us know how you get on Cats, have a safe journey.

cheers

For operational upgrades, it's a mix of Status, fare class and other elements.

Search this site for the term "Proactive Onload".

This thread has got me a little intrigued. Is this flight in a few hours? Would be interested to see what has happened with upgrades and op-ups as it looks like a high number of Chairman's Lounge and Platinums.

Why is the flight via HKG mostly oversold instead of the one via SIN? Does they A380 play a factor in which case when MEL-HKG-LHR goes A380 this little lottery is going to stop.
