Count me in the reasonable sleep on AA redeye club. LAX-BOS 757. Much shorter sleep on SEA-DFW MD80 (much shorter flight - roughly PER-ASP).

I have not been able to upgrade from MEL-LAX, but I certainly have been able to upgrade for US$550 from LAX-MEL. I have done this a few times now. As said by others previously, it really is a cough shoot, but well worth a shot.

Most times they have seats that haven't been taken up with upgrades, so from UA point of view it really is a good move to take an extra few hundred dollars that they would not have normally had.

The buy up at check-in (if they have any seats!) rate has gone up to $US700 one sector OZ-USA I was told by a friend recently, so the $US550 days are long gone.

I still have 2 x UA Systermwides left, that will upgrade anyone instantly, at any time to anywhere, basically, so they are looking a better Platinum benny each and every year!

If anyone has questions on the UA upgrade system feel free to email me - ozstamps [at] ozemail.com.au
