Flying flexi bne-syd next weekend, what's the success rate of using upgrade me points to get J?

Are you told whether you got the upgrade straight away?

Thanks

On flights like Brisbane to Sydney the sooner you check for an upgrade the better, but rarely do I have a problem getting an upgrade as long as you are flexible with flights.

Yes you are told right away, however I don't often find upgrades available.

Agree with it being a waste, I'd much rather use the points for an upgrade to LAX or AUH ;)

Anyway, if you search for flights with points and premium cabin, then any business reward seats available will be available for upgrades. So you can then call up, and they will confirm the upgrade immediately.

A potential rule of thumb is to search for availability of a business award on that flight.

Has anyone tried an upgrademepoints request for a transpacific VA flight? PE to J. How long after request did upgrade occur

Would love to know too. I'm keeping an eye on a Y —> PE upgrade and not sure if they'll wait until all bids are in (i.e. just before departure) to choose winners.

When did you put the request in MrsS? and when is your flight

Sorry, I should have said I was watching the minimum bid to see if it drops lower. Booked on 23 April BNE-LAX and 26 April LAX-SYD.

Really wish I could bid for Y —> J but isn't possible by the looks of it! :(

Oh ok you are looking at upgrademe premium bid. Im looking at upgrademe points. Im not bidding just wanting to use points for upgrade.

Whats the current bid for Y --> PE transpacific?

A few days ago, I was getting USD $370 for BNE-LAX and USD $445 for LAX-SYD. Now it's $5 more on each route. Not bad considering the fare, but if I'm paying more normal cash, I'd really prefer J. I'm just not sure the incremental value of PE is enough for a WP.

Whats the current bid for Y --> PE transpacific?

I'm seeing AUD 500 for SYD-LAX this Saturday and AUD 600 for LAX-SYD on a Sunday at the end of March, so basically identical except in AUD.
(I take it bids are offered in the same currency as the original booking, hence why I'm seeing AUD and mrsmart you're seeing USD?)

And I'm in the same mindset... would bid for an upgrade to J, but don't think an upgrade to PE is worthwhile as a WP.

Yep, my fare was charged in USD.

I have to say, it's a lot easier to swallow when you read it in USD. The AUD amount seems too high even though I know it's the same.

Excuse my ignorance but whats WP gotta do with it?

Priority check-in, boarding and extra baggage are thrown in with PE, so it's just a few things that come with WP. Wouldn't be any easier to sleep or have a significantly better meal so it just means there's very little to entice.

That said, I've never done PE – always Y, J or F – so tempted for that reason alone, particularly if they've installed new seats next month.
