Upgrade Priority. Staff vs. Paying Passenger

I don't know which hotel you worked in, but my son worked as a porter/concierge for the Sofitel for 5 years while at uni.
He was allowed to eat in the restaurants and the family dined there on numerous occasions.
After each year of service he also received a free room night including breakfast.
Great idea as the staff are able to experience what the guests do and learn from that experience.

I happen to work at a 3 hatted restaurant and it's encouraged to come in and experience the other side. Also helps us to know the product better and improve our service.

Hello all!

Just thought I would weigh in on the conversation here.

I've been working for QF for the last 4 years and entitled to Staff travel.

The rules state that even if we are upgraded to business we cannot use the lounge, even if we happen to be Qantas Club members or have status.

Since FF's have been able to upgrade up until boarding now, there is less chance of staff receiving an upgrade.

I love to travel, fly and love the industry, so I always book confirmed, and fork out the cash for international business. I also hold Gold with QF and on my way to platinum. I have a few mates who are in the same boat as me. We love the whole experience too much to be dictated by ground staff where we sit, if we will get on, you might not get a meal etc.

As for your second point, the staff I see in the lounge - I know who they are. I know the jobs they have. I know they wouldn't be forking out $15k each to fly to LAX. Plus I know how they get in the lounge - another acquaintance of mine works there and lets his mates in all the time. They just have to be listed in the "guest book". If you visit the lounge enough, you get to recognise the staff - even when they are not in uniform....
.

Aren't the vast majority of F lounge staff employed by Accor, not Qantas?

Not the First hosts. The hosts are those that meet you kerbside, escort you to the lounge or are on reception. These are distinct from those that are serving in the restaurant, spa, etc.

Being a First host is very competitive and is considered an accomplished role.

As for the guestlist, yes, my Doctor for example is guested in because his patient is a First host.

I would complain, highlight the example and it will see that it is solved. If they don't know, they can't fix it...

I think the JJ25 has a good gripe with this part:
... and the CSM spent most of his time chatting to a pair of staff on holiday - the whole cabin could hear the conversation. I have also seen them serve staff their meals first and missed out on my choice - I made an issue of it - and they ended up bringing me my choice from the REAR galley where they had already stashed their crew meals!!! ...
