If you upgrade your flight eg. BKK-SYD in J to F, do you still accrue points and SCs for the J ticket (ie about 4000pts + status + cabin bonus; 120SCs)?

Thanks

I did find this on qantas.com which seems to get debated here endlessly:

qantas.com said:
Upgrades are allocated according to your membership level: Platinum Frequent Flyers first, followed by Gold, Silver and then Bronze. When using your points to upgrade an eligible family member, the upgrade will be awarded according to the eligible family member's priority not the status of the Qantas Frequent Flyer whose points are being used.

There's no mention of not earning points.

LOL and to complete my own thread:

qantas.com said:
16.1.5 The following conditions apply to the use of Flight Upgrades:
.....

(e) Points and Status Credits will be earned only for the class of service that has been purchased, rather than the upgraded class of travel;

.....

So by this I presume, yes, you do for the original class booked.

Yep, if posting correctly it should show on your activity similar to this:
Code:
10 MAR 09 QF 011 ECONOMY/BUSINESS 08MAR09 SYDNEY/LOS 7,491 - 1,873 9,364 45
          ANGELES
          UPGRADE REF 3UWIL5

Or as in this case if original class (ie before upgrade) was not eligible for points then it is "0":

"UNSUCCESSFUL - INELIGIBLE CLASS
CX 0105 BUSINESS 18NOV08 HONG KONG/ADELAIDE 0 0"

Just got an upgrade on QF130 PEK-SYD and I only got the my economy points and SC - no extras for the upgrade.:(

Back in 2006 I was upgraded as well, but then I got full Business class points and SC - guess they are trying to limit how many seats they give away - maybe that's why they're also clamping down on the CC that can earn as well??

I haven't upgraded many flights over the years, but for as long as I can remember (admittedly not that long) it has been the case that you only receive points and SCs for the class booked, not the class flown in (ie. upgraded to).

It may have been different once (but I don't think in 2006, maybe you got lucky), but someone else will need to chime in with that info.

Anyway, you got the upgrade, many don't, so that's a good thing! :)

If you upgraded your 2006 flight using points, then you got lucky. Back in 2006 you should have only got SCs and points per the class booked/paid for. Count your blessing.

Restricting CC earn has everything to do with QANTAS wanting to spinoff/sell their FF program to raise cash, not to do with restricting redemptions.

Sometimes when you upgrade, you will get the points for the upgraded class, but this is very much the exception rather than the rule. Certainly it has been this way for quite some time, and I would say you got lucky in 2006.

As for the CC transactions, I think their aim is to lock in more points to the QFF scheme rather than trying to reduce the number of them.

Whether you get the extra SC and point sis dependent on whether they re book you into that class. If it is a points upgrade you will not get extra, but I have had an op up that they called me days prior and they must have booked me into the higher class and that is why I received the extra SC and points.
