I am trying to lodge an upgrade request for a QF flight but I keep getting this message -

Request period opens
26 Nov

Any clues on why I am getting this and what I can do about it?

Per the Qantas FF terms and conditions, upgrade requests can only be accepted between 90 days and 24 hours before the flight. I expect 26th Nov is when the 90 day window opens for your flight.

But that's today, so why haven't they opened the request period?

What time does the flight leave? It probably will open at exactly T-90 days (+/- one hour for DST)

Give it time for the system to open up the upgrade option. What time of day is the flight scheduled to depart? I don't know if the system opens for all upgrade requests at the same time of day, or if each flight is opened exactly 90x24 hours before scheduled departure.

I had this problem with a flight back from the USA. As they are 16 odd hours behind us, and the flight didn't leave LAX until 10pm at night it meant that I couldn't actually put in for the upgrade until 1-2 days after the 'request' period. Hang in there and keep trying until it will let you.

Why is it a problem? The upgrade window opens for everyone at the same time so Anna wont miss out on an upgrade opportunity as a result of this.

The online system works on the exact hour: i.e. exactly T-2160 hours.

However, you can generally call Qantas FF on the correct calendar day and have it done before you can do it online, especially if your flight leaves really late in the day (Like QF29 ex MEL).

Thanks Serfty, great idea, they have logged the upgrade request manually.

Thanks ejb. My booking now reads that I am waitlisted for an "upgrade to economy" (sic). Love those QF automatic messages. Perhaps QF off-shored their drafting to a country that doesn't speak English.

I'm sorry.. I just can't resist....;)

"off-shored... to a country that doesn't speak English"?

OFF-SHORED????

Almost guaranteed but more than likely they speak English although their command of the English may not be adequate.

I just did the same thing and put in for a J upgrade for LHR-SIN and SIN-MEL for Feb. I gotta ask those around, I did a family transfer to myself (as I am and AA Plat) is this gonig to affect my ability to get upgraded? Do they treat OW pax like those on QFF? or do i end up behind the bronze ball?

Oh and it took me two days before my actual "window" opened put in for the upgrade.
Oh well hopefully if J sells out I can get PE?

AA Platinum is Oneworld Sapphire which is the equivalent to QF Gold.

I maybe well be wrong but as you are requesting an upgrade on QF then I feel your QF status, not your Oneworld status, will determine where you fit into the upgrade order.

Slightly OT, but does award availability automatically mean upgrade award availability?

That would be a pointer to a trend for one's upgrade chances to be increased; however it still would not be assured.

QF5 SYD-SIN on 20 December

I was thinking of putting in a request for a QFF points upgrade, (yes I know I have either been drinking or been out in the sun for too long) but when I saw the fare buckets I thought I would save the points. What are the chances of getting a complimentary upgrade on this flight? Is it likely to be oversold in WHY? Worst case is I still have my exit row seat (I hope)....
