Upgrade then cancel???

I have a Saver Lite booking that will cost me more to cancel than to not take the flight. I was wondering if I upgraded to a Flexi fare I would then be able to turn around and cancel the booking, at no cost? Is this possible?

As far as I understand, in a word, no. You would need to pay the change fee (similar, if not the same as, cancellation fee) and fare difference.

Any change of fare class results in the most restrictive conditions being applied, so whist you may have paid the same or more than the flexible fare your still stuck with the saver conditions.

Unless your travel plans are locked in stone, or the price is so good you won't miss it if you fail to turn up, it's better to avoid booking the cheap seats. Ultimately it's cheaper in the long run to stick to Saver fares as you can at least change them 24 hours ahead of departure.
