Does anyone know if it's possible to upgrade someone else's fare using points from a Flex economy to J?

I know that for the complimentary upgrades that a platinum gets, they can only give it to someone else if they're travelling with them.

The popularity of the VA J product on the trans con routes is becoming an issue. I've three times missed out on J class due to no seats at the required time. But heck, that just makes me want it all the more if it is proving that popular.

Looks like it is moot point now, I believe there's availability on PER-SYD for the 12.30 flight next Thursday, but not the 16.30 which is the one I'd be looking to take.

12.30 is A330 so more seats available than the 16.30 which is 737. Never had a problem upgrading on the A330.

I've done this, got upgraded on a flex fare using a parents account. All had to be done over the phone of course. The sooner VA figure out their online points upgrade system, the better. And I don't think they should exclude discount fares from points upgrades either, they should just cost more, like QF.

Yes, but unfortunately it doesn't allow enough time for the funeral which I have to attend before flying out.

If you're booked on a flexi fare with a connection, does an upgrade request allow both segments to be upgraded to J? Eg, BNE-SYD-PER. What will the the cost of the upgrade then? Equivalent to BNE-PER or, BNE-SYD + SYD-PER?

My experience has been the upgrade is the original port to the destination port. i.e. in your case BNE-PER. (I have done MEL-SYD-PER on an upgrade and it was charged as MEL-PER)
