Upgrade with points

Hi all

I couldn't quite find the answer to my query via searching VA sites or the forum.
I have booked flights for myself and my husband to Bali for October in Y and submitted a request for upgrade to J with points (as I had an influx via a new credit card bonus), with both legs now waitlisted. I understand the order of approval for the waitlisted upgrades, my query is whether they will take into account my husband's gold velocity status who is on the booking as well, or do they only consider my status of red as I made the booking and the upgrade request and have the points in my account? Will we be considered under the gold status in the priority list?

Or alternatively should I cancel the upgrade request, transfer the points to him and he submits the upgrade? Unfortunately his gold status will expire the month before we go (his work switched to qantas for his regular work flights) but will still be higher than me on silver at that point.

Thanks for any info.

That is an interesting question. I had thought that If you are both on the one booking then generally the status used is that of the higher statused passenger. But I can't recall an anecdote, nor find anything documented.

If it is of no penalty then I'd suggest doing as you indicated.
