UpgradeMe pricing and success

Good to know! I have one of these bags in 15”
unsure if my 16” laptop will fit, my physio won’t be happy I’m using a shoulder bag with my neck problems. Should I have heard back about the success by now? Flight is on Tuesday?

You probably won’t hear if it’s successful until the day. Still plenty of time for that seat to be sold

The HP one I got takes up to 17" modern or old 16" with wide bezels with 2cm either side of screen (just wide enough to not touch zip when pulling out I'd guess). 16" is a breeze.

It makes dealing with intra-European security almost fun compared with my previous approach of having to unpack my large carry on bag as laptops always sat on its base with protection of soft item on top & then the rest of the carry-on gear. Major effort to unpack/pack.

Now, just the sound of a zip opening & closing. Even better the bag fits in the overhead lockers like a book on a library shelf. No worries of somebody shoving aside the carry-on bag to make room. The HP bag always goes next to the divider/wall of the overhead bin.

If I am unsuccessful am I able to travel with my 16” Laptop in a backpack + an overnight travel suitcase to take onboard?
You'll be fine with a laptop backpack and cabin-size luggage in Economy. I did the same thing yesterday (my laptop backpack is slim enough to stow underneath the seat in front)

That’s what I thought, as I’ve travelled Qantas many times like this but wasn’t sure on Virgin. I guess worst case I check the cabin sized luggage in and wait for it at carousel if they stop me 🤷‍♂️

✈ Congratulations, You Have Been Upgraded!

Just received this email. It is only for the way there, not back. I bid $115 on the way back from Sydney to Melbourne, have not heard back about the outcome (flight is the following day), so perhaps they only provide the outcome 24 hours prior? I also noticed the business class ticket for the flight home is showing as $699 instead of the usual $299

You'll typically hear back a few hours prior on MEL-SYD routes. Sometimes it happens a few days before but rarely in my experience.

I would expect you'll hear about your return trip sometime tonight or tomorrow.

Don't forget to reclaim the economy X fees if you paid for them on the original ticket.

Thanks for the prompt reply. How do I reclaim the economy X fees. Last night there was 1 business class seat available, now showing 2 (after I’ve been allocated?) Perhaps they have had cancellations since it’s raining all week in Sydney.

I was planning to get to the airport by 6.30AM for 7.30AM departure, now that I have business class should I aim to get there a bit earlier?

Give Virgin a call and explain you bid for an upgrade - which was a success and they'll refund. This can be later in the week after the flights.

1 hour prior? Plenty of time. You'll have enough time for a coffee and something to eat in the lounge.

Fantastic. I’ll keep you guys posted on return leg, flights for some reason (departing 5PM) are showing business class as $699, so not sure about my likelihood of an upgrade with offering $115 it was in the low range, the first successful upgrade was showing middle of the fair range.

Airlines at times block seats so don't be too fazed by the quantity of available seats & price, can check Expert Flyer for more accurate seating, but nothing for certain until that successful or Unsuccessful email comes thru.

re; an hour before departure, boarding called upto 30mins prior so to relax a little I'd give myself slightly more than an hour, personal preference though. Early flight you have.

Thanks maybe i should enjoy the lounge a bit now that I have access. I just wanted an early flight in so I can get to Sydney and not waste time as I have a big day of stocktaking.

The weather in Sydney is apparently terrible with heavy storms. If a flight is delayed and I’m rescheduled do I get assigned a business class ticket on the rescheduled flight?

Not necessarily.
They'll do their best to accommodate you on another flight. If they can get you back on your happy to fly Y instead of waiting for X hours for J on another flight that's what they'll do.

Currently sitting in Melbourne Airport Virgin Lounge. I’m very impressed nice and modern. A lot nicer than Qantas lounge. Coffee was excellent too. The lounges cop a lot of flak online for poor service. It’s mostly self serve anyway. Very clean too. Have not heard back about the UpgradeMe for tomorrow evenings flight home from Sydney.
