UpgradeMe pricing and success

Holding my nerve, as I already have 3A sewn up for the morning trip. Wouldn't mind the J upgrade as that would save me rushing to the lounge for breakfast though.
You’re one more open J seat than when I took the min + $5 option

However I had the issue with processing payment failure of the credit card…

So ultimately missed out

I’d put in a points Upgrademe on waitlist a few weeks ago for PER-BNE. I missed the memo about OLCI wiping out the request, and called at T-25 and was able to re-request it and confirm straight away.

Originally was scheduled to be a new 737 Max but subbed out for a regular 800. Can’t have it all.

Corn fritters on HBA-SYD this morning.

I've never bothered with bid-now upgrade me thingy. 3C in Economy X free on the cheapest fare does me just fine when I can't snag a cheap J fare.

But I got the invitation a few days ago for my HBA-xSYD-ADL flights today. Saw "recommended" bid as $250 which I thought would be reasonable value, until I scrolled down and saw that that was just for the first leg 🤣.

So I put a cheeky $150 bid in for the first leg, and soon got an e-mail saying I was 'outbid'; no surprise. Then, the next day (yesterday), I got an e-mail saying my bid was accepted. I never looked at the loads (indicating my lack of caring!!)

Is this unusual - being knocked back and then accepted?

My successful offer was 60% of their 'recommended' bid. Would it be usual for a bid of that tenor to be accepted? I know it will depend on loads, but is there a low threshold that they will never accept?

EDIT: Read some more of the thread and it looks like I may have over-bid!

Bid minimum + $5 for tomorrow middle of day flight MEL-BNE. No "update your bid" email or anything. Noted that at T-18 there are no seats left... not sure if purchased or if upgraded though.

PS - received the "Upgrade offer unsuccessful" email at T-3, offering me the option of Economy X. Obviously they're not taking into account what status someone holds 😑

PPS - Prior MEL-BNE flight was cancelled, so I'm guessing there may have also been some J pax transferred over to mine as well 😑😑

Minimum bid of $90 ADL-PER successful at T-25. My original fare was a Flex (work paid) so not sure if that increased my chances....still happy nonetheless!
Fairly good value for $90. I assume for a flex fare the minimum $$ bid would be lower than for a choice fare ?

47 Hours prior to my flight I've been told I've been outbid...

4 J seats left, and I'm trying to get 4 upgrades

I added $10 each to see what happens and I was previously $5 above the minimum

25 hours to go, and looks like 3A and 3B are now in J, as those seats opened up on the seat selection. Now only 2 x J seats left so I won't be upgraded as I am after 4 x J.

I've moved to 3A and 3B for two of us travelling, so it's not that bad :)

Saving $350 per person :D

Have put in a bid upgrade with VA for the first time. Have just been sent my online check in for the economy fare. Should I hold off on check in until I know the status of my upgrade?
