Hi team, this is a long shot:

I am Velocity Platinum. I have recently booked economy class flights SYD-SIN-LHR return, on a code-share SQ flight BUT via Singapore Airlines itself rather than the VA booking system. My original plan was to transfer some Velocity points to my Krisflyer account and use them for an upgrade.

However, 2 complications: 1) SQ says that no upgrades are available (but couldn't tell me if that was because of seat availability or my low Krisflyer status), and 2) I have just learnt that my Krisflyer account has been cancelled due to inactivity (despite having active bookings!).

Can anyone thing of a loophole that would allow a Velocity Platinum to upgrade on the SQ flight??

Cheers
S

You need to be booked on the SQ code and in fare bucket E, B or Y to be eligible to upgrade from economy. You also need to pick your flights carefully as you can only upgrade one class, so if you're on any flights that have Y+, that rules out a Y to J upgrade straight away.

There are no loopholes unfortunately. SQ is very good in allowing you to confirm an upgrade if it's available, but is also very firm on its policy to protect its premium classes.
