Have an email offer with link to upgrading current David Jones Amex card, with bonus 50k DJ MRpoints or 37.5k QFF points depending on program enrolled to.

Clicking onto link brings me to Amex's application page

Question is will this 'upgrade' be subjected to a credit check and impact my credit score? Has anyone else holding DJ Amex received this offer?

I got this offer in the mail yesterday too. Not sure about the credit check. Haven't decided whether to apply (basically as a $295 purchase of 37,500 points). I was going to cancel my DJ card at the end of the 12 months (only using for petrol at 2.25 points per $1). Prefer the Amex Edge for the 3 points per $1 at supermarkets.

If it comes with an increase in the credit limit it most likely will have a credit check, if it doesn't I would say probably not, but I have never done it with these cards (have done for CBA and it didn't have a credit check). Maybe call and ask?

You'll likely get an inquiry on your credit file as Amex generally don't do automatic product transfer unless it's a downgrade eg from velocity platinum to escape.

I did however transfer velocity platinum to platinum reserve recently and don't seem to have hot my credit file so you never know.

Yeah I got the same offer in the mail today....

Has a link to: David Jones American Express Platinum Offer

Interestingly the paper application doesn't require financial details (just asks for existing card number, address/licence number etc). Whilst the online application appears to be a completely new application wanting all details.

Is there a place we can get the paper based application? I'm not to keen on another credit check, especially as I'm happy to keep the current $2500 limit they have already given me. I just got approved for a new card very recently.

I don't want to further add to my credit file or get to a position where I get rejected even though the only recent change is the new card.

This is true but the link posted does not seem to have any exclusions in the terms and conditions except for
Offer not available to existing David Jones American Express Platinum Card Members, or customers applying for the David Jones American Express Platinum Staff Card.
Unless I have missed something so it may be worth considering anyway. :D

I would try giving them a call...and ask if they can send you out the paper form again as you have "misplaced it".

I would've scanned up a copy of mine but it's all filled in with my details.

There doesn't appear to be any form code but the title in big bold white letters at the top is "David Jones American Express Platinum Card application for customers with a David Jones American Express Card".

I've attached the offer letter also:

Pardon my ignorance - does a paper application mean that you don't get a credit check?

That was what I was trying to find out. Some people say AMEX does credit checks for that sort of thing and I have only had experience with ANZ and CBA which told me product transfers and upgrades don't as long as you keep the same limit.

I spoke to AMEX, they confirmed the online link is open to Everyone and a credit check is performed when using the above link. I never asked about the paper but they said you can go instore and upgrade as well.

I would think that Amex do not base their decision on whether or not to perform a credit check based on method of application, but happy to be corrected, as I've sent in a paper form for my Plat Reserve recently! :)

There is a problem with the AMEX upgrade link posted in the forum and AMEX are looking into it. If you submit and application, you will get a reference number but AMEX will not receive it. They are working on it but don't have a time-frame and but they seemed pretty confident that once they get it back online, they will be able to retrieve it. They emailed me the paper application and scanned it back and confirmed I was eligible for the 50000 bonus points with the upgrade.

How quickly did people receive the points after spending 3 times outside of DJ as per the offer? I haven't received them and when phone called they said need to spend a $1000...

I spent 3 times and got the bonus points few days after.
