Credit Card Offers Westpac Altitude Black offers: 120,000 Qantas or Velocity Points (expires 30/4/25)

I applied this and got approved the platinum version of this card when my credit score is 623.. Just finished closing down 2-3 credit cards in the last 6 months and got a new home loan Credit score went from 780 to 620ish. Still got the card.

I think the issue is how this is going to impact your credit score having 2 hits at the same time as opposed to how easy to get approval. Get my credit scrore is close Veda score which is good. In comparison, Credit savvy is not complete and not a good indication

Anyone knows when the points will be credited after spending is met with this card? I have started the card for a month, spent twice the requirement and got nearly 3,000 points on my statement but see nothing in my Qantas account after a week of first statement. Even the 3,000 points have not been transferred.

Westpac normally make you wait the entire period for the bonus. Other points should be in your account within a few days of the statement.

Well the terms of the offer (see bottom of page of the offer in the link) state:

The bonus Qantas Points will be added to your points balance within 12 weeks once you meet the eligible spend criteria. Existing Westpac customers who currently hold an Altitude Platinum Visa Card or Altitude Black Mastercard, or who have held one in the last 12 months, are not eligible for this offer. Qantas Points earned during a statement cycle are added to your Qantas Points balance on a monthly basis.

my assumption was westpac-amex is a bank issued card and therefore excluded from the.. exclusion period.

I applied only for the altitude platinum visa and not the amex as from my readings there is no annual fee for the visa but there is a fee for the altitude amex.

i may be wrong but that's from what I read in T&Cs

therefore excluded from the.. exclusion period.

It's not clear which exclusion period you are referring to. Is it:

1) The exclusion period for the Westpac VISA card
2) The exclusion period for the Wespac AMEX card
3) The exclusion for AMEX issued AMEX cards?

Thanks.

Will be interested to see if you're assumption is correct. Given the dumping of AMEX by Westpac in the last year and now the introduction of this new arrangement, I'm not sure your assumption will be correct.

I suppose a call to AMEX would clarify but they could always change their T&Cs

Here is the T&C:
  1. Bonus & Eligibility: 55,000 bonus offer is only available to new American Express Card Members who apply online for the Qantas American Express Ultimate Card, are approved and spend $3,000 on eligible purchases on their new Card in the first 3 months from the Card approval date. This is a limited time offer which may be withdrawn or changed at any time without notice. Card Members who currently hold or who have previously held any Card product issued by American Express Australia Limited, in the preceding 18 month period are ineligible for the Bonus Qantas Points offer. Previous and existing bank-issued American Express companion cardholders are eligible for this offer (cards issued by: Australia New Zealand Banking Group Limited, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, National Australia Bank, Westpac Banking Corporation).
Even though Westpac dumped Amex to have it managed using the Amex portal. It's still issued by Westpac, with the Westpac Branding and can't be acquired directly with Amex. I feel the T&C above still applies. However this may be different from reality, who knows.

guys. Let me provide some clarify - i have spoken to amex and can confirm that it's a co brand card therefore would not be subject to the 18 months rule whatsoever. The same rule applies to Djs amex card. My bigger concern however is whether it's worth 2 credit checks at the same time. It's a big hit. much better doing it spaced across 3 months for example

Hope you got that advice in writing.

IIRC, pointhacks confirmed this as well.

Did you guys just go for the Visa or the amex combo too - when I spoke to an online CSR they said only the combo gets the fee waiver. Do you choose to also get the amex when applying? Or is it forced through?

I wasn’t given a choice... it comes as a package. Some comments on ozbarg suggested visa only was possible but I couldn’t see how.

Applied last night for the Visa and Amex combo and was conditionally approved. I currently hold multiple Amex issued Amex cards so it will be interesting to see if I get the Amex part of the bonus points.

I've had the Visa/Amex combo for a week now, and held an existing Amex issued Amex. My online account for the Westpac Amex seems to think I can get the bonus points...
