Sorry if already posted but what is the urban legend on who has the most QFF points in the bank. Is there a guru around here with like 10,000,000 points or something?

Did you try searching, both through google and the site, as I’m sure this has also been posted to FlyerTalk.

As for the actual question, most like to spend their points these days because they don’t want another AN disaster where they’ll lose everything.

Edit: The above being said, without the right keywords searching is difficult… I found a thread in 2005 where someone had over 800,000 points and was going to use it to buy lifetime QP. That’s pretty high.

As samh004 said most people spend the points to prevent devaluation.

That said, due to the Amex promo a few years back some people here collected well over 1000000 MR points which if transferred to QFF would equal over 1M points.

I am sure some people would have many millions.

...and some people like to hoard.

There are those that are saving for the trip of a lifetime. There are those business folk who are generating more points than they can spend. I'd say there are some pretty sizeable balances out there.

Indeed. I know a few people that put all of their business expenditure through their personal cards for the points and get plenty of them - I'm sure a few are on this board :)

It's a pity we scrapped our business AMEX cards (which earned points) for Visa (which don't). I earned quite a few points back then (we canned them when they stopped allowing transfers to Qantas) :D

There was a senior manager at Accenture that was reported to have had 25,000,000 points at one stage...

I wouldn't say no if they wanted to share

Im down to 1000 at the moment due to using what I did have, and will probably never get anywhere near that amount

I have a colleague who just purchased 2 RTW J fares and 3 RTW Y fares on points. The only reason why there weren't 5 J fares was because the TA couldn't get them 5 award seats on the same flights.

I figure that works out to about 1.5M points.

Shame really, they could have used those points to buy a friday afternoon domestic any seat award.;)

I know of a member on here (that never posts) that has over 1m mainly acquired through credit cards but is also SG as of this year thanks to here.

If I had hoarded i'd have had well over a million from the past 12 years, but I just tend to burn through them as needed.

I aquire a lot more points now, than back when I used to be a Plat with Ansett, which goes to show that knowledge is king. I wish I knew then what I do now!!!

In recent years I aquire points mainly by maximising CC use (but only for private spend), Points Running, taking advantage of promos, and various ways that present from time to time to supercharge ones earn rate. I rarely pay for flights and so only earn a little by paid flights. Unfortunately also these days I gain little via work expenses (whereas many years back it was quite lucrative for me).

Have redeemed about 1.5 million on flights in just over the last year.

But still have about:
1.6 Million at SQ
0.8 at QFF
0.4 at Amex
0.08 at BMI.

Point Running/ Promo Bonii slowed down a bit last year post GFC as most companies seemed to get tight with their MR/FF points. But of late things seemed to freeing up and opportunities are presenting again.

However the big point collectors are those running business/ATO cash through their cards. Though this may cost sau 0.6 cent per point (but is reddemed for J+ at 4 cents or more per point)

Partner's dad channels a business Amex to QF. When I did my last redemption (economy to Singapore at Easter 2011) the balance was down a bit to 5.8 million. Was over 6.5m last year. His lifetime status credits - 120.

Frequent spender program?

If any of those aforementioned "too many points to know what to do with" people are still stumped, feel free to offload some to your good ol' cousin k_sheep!

I've got 80k, never spent any. I'm a hoarder :D And new to this game!

If he uses Any Seat Awards in the future he might improve on that SC total quite quickly.

Well said.
I'm about to burn 140k on a Oneworld RTW (SYD-BKK-LHR-BUD-LHR-LAX-SYD -with side trips thrown in) in Feb/March next year. And that should take me to 0.

Randy Peterson (founder or Flyertalk) has over 13million points.

This business is still the greatest thing in the world to me. At last count I've earned over 13 million combined miles and points from all of my programs (I belong to over 70 of them) and I search for opportunities to earn more all the time.

I remember Randy saying that he had heard a rumor of someone with over 100 million points in the USA.

I wonder if there are any centurion members out that there that have bought a $1m item on their card: a nice 1.5m points!

That is how I now retain status.

I have not spent a cent with QF or any airline in over 12 months but still have retained WP until May 2012.

That more read that Randy has earned 13m points over time, but necessarily saying he has 13m points now (although it can say that too)... Anyway, it's a tiny academic point... (no pun intended)

Anyway, I'm interested to know what's the highest balance you've ever accumulated at any one point in time. As many of us have said, the points are just going to devalue if you don't use them. It's not like you'll earn interests on them...

I think my highest balance was about 880K... That took me some 10 years to save without any large spends. Then it dropped to under 1k in days... :) Now, I'm at around 250K again...
