Hi guys,

I was in the middle of a status run PER-SIN-BKK-SIN-PER and have stupidly just missed the BKK-SIN CX flight. I am meant to be connecting to a QF flight at 7:30pm in Singapore tonight.

What are my options? Is the only way home to call CX and QF and change to a flight tomorrow or can I still somehow make the QF flight?

Thanks. Never done this before :(

Time to make some phone calls. If its one ticket home, then call CX first and they should sort out any connections. if its two tickets, you need to sort them both out. Then check your travel insurance to see if you are covered.

Looks like Air Asia to SIN tonight and get QF 72 home tomorrow morning.

NM - I will be footing the bill for this mistake myself!

If you don't mind me asking, what was the reason for missing the flight? And what fare class is the ticket booked into? This will have impact on your options available ...

Fare class I. Had in my head the flight was scheduled for a 3:30pm departure, was very confident of this :(. Turns out I cant trust myself anymore!!

Completely my fault - not blaming anyone.

Given I is a highly restrictive fare, you're going to need a lot of luck to not have those 2 flights now cancelled... I'd get on the phone ASAP and give them a call to see what can be sorted:!:

Hey guys,

Long story short - Headed out to the airport to make the bookings at the airlines sale's counters. Air Asia doubled their price from online quote to walk up quote. Decided to take a day off work, Cathay switched me from yesterday's flight to todays flight in a matter of 5 minutes - no questions asked.

The best company to deal with has been Qantas by far - very accommodating to the three changes I have made. Basically I am now on the same flights just a day later. Stayed overnight at the airport Novotel in Bangkok - not a bad place.

All in all a costly mistake for me to make - not one I've made before on hundreds of flights (never even been late to be honest) and not one I am likely to make again!!

Cathay were very good to me too the only time I was late to the airport. They simply switched me to a later flight.

So did it end up costing you anything, apart from the hotel ?

Well when I was going to take the Air Asia option I changed the QF flight from an award to a paid ticket so I could still get the SCs needed to hit gold. This cost me $436SG, plus 7500 points change fee.

Then I decided to stick with Cathay and take the day off, so I changed from the morning QF flight to the afternoon one. This cost me an additional $110SG change fee.

Plus the hotel charge of $181 for the night.

All adds up I guess.

Ditto. I've always maintained that, even if I might not like Cathay in the air, I'd want to be dealing with them on the ground when a screw-up occurs. They've bent over backwards and sorted me out of many a potentially difficult situation with no fuss at all, including missed flights. :)

I tend to agree QF009 - Cathay in the air were surprisingly shabby, considering how highly they have been rated over the years. Ground staff were incredibly rude in both ports but handled any request I had efficiently.

However when I said 'no questions asked' above - I literally meant it. No words were said by the ground staff, the new eticket was slapped down on the counter and off I was sent!!

Never thought I would see the day that service died in Asia.

Seems to me that your extras (inc. $75 worth of points) was about AUD$680.
Now I'm not knocking that - I've paid that much extra for missing a flight coz I went without ID for a dom. seat on an international flight. stuff happens!

However Im guessing the original flights were in the $1k to $2k bracket?

I gottas ask - is that worth it for SG ??

I guess your I class fare had more flexibility than we are used to - or CX see a Business fare differently. In any case, welcome to the ranks of the complimentary QP denizens ...

FWIW, There is no 7½Km point change fee.

There is a 5K point Cancellation fee and a 2½K change fee.

Unless you had several bookings I can't see it.

most of cathay's very cheap specials in business class are booked into I class and with the current downturn in premium passengers most flights are awash with I class availability.

so not really any problem to change flights, and there are no change fees - even after flight departure (at least for the range of fares I have seen ex Japan, Korea and Thailand)

given plenty of I class the most restriction seems to be on the length of the ticket (30 days in many cases) and if you cancel completely, where the cancellation fee seems to be about AUD100.

glad it all worked out in the end!

7500pts - 5k cancellation + 2.5k rebooking.

Tony - original total cost was $746AU, worth it to me and also included a decent weekend getaway.

Didn't turn out as planned but that is life. I am suprised no one has called me an idiot on here yet  thank you for holding back!!

...
Unless you had more than one booking, then that 2½K fee would be an "Assisted Award Booking Fee" as one shouldn't be able to rebook a "NEW" booking.

Don't worry - you are amongst many other Death Eaters here. Me - I reckon it's karma.
