US/AUS - discount Y, when do the specials appear?

Last yr in April QF and AA price matched a UA offer of $1499 Syd-US and I bought 5 AA return tickets for this yr. I'm now wondering when to buy next yrs tickets.

Would I be better off ticketing from the US? AA has a special for LAX- IAD- LAX for $198 plus taxes through next yr.

AA EXP PLT for under A$10K with luck!!
