US Dividend Miles - Award Booking Questions and General Discussion

Re: misspelled name on booking

For eg. my passport is MR LEGAL// ALAN LUCKY

And my ticket booking is now ALANL LEGAL, ie my first name is ALANL , would this matter? booking is from Australia to Europe.

Usually if only 1 letter wrong no big deal, but maybe best to check with the airline directly.

Re: US Dividend Miles Buy/Gift Miles 100% bonus - Cheap way for F/J *A Awards

Devaluations are not unique to LM lol have you heard of Qantas :p
Many many FF and hotel program's have had devaluations over last year, far from unusual and IMO not enough of a reason to stay away from any particular one.

A quick question...I can see availability to Europe SYD-(PEK)-FRA but can I book return via the United States with a stopover?

Depends on your destination and just how much PEK / FRA adds, you need to be wary of MPM. The destination will always be the furthest point with the stopover being the other place you stop.

Destination is FRA. Availability of award seats as shown on ANA isn't promising. For the moment I see option of buying tix from FRA to IAD. ANA shows me seats JFK-(PEK)-SYD for the dates I like. That will require overnighting but less than 24 hours. What are the possibilities?

Other ideas appreciated...stopover in FRA is important, as is IAD (or JFK to make my own way to DC).

If PEK isn't important, what about SYD-ICN-LAX-IAD // LHR-FRA(stop)-BKK-SYD or something similar. Not sure if that fits within MPM though....

Thanks Flashback. PEK is irrelevant except that I couldnt see availability elsewhere. I'll check out your suggestion but my routing will be to FRA first, then IAD to return to SYD.

i assume this is a dumb question, but if i go on united website and do a LAX-SYD F award redemption i can see it come up as 160k points + minimal $. is there any way to book this using something besides united points? (e.g. LM or USDM?). this option doesn't show up on awardtravelr.

you need to be looking for 'award saver' availability. other availability is open for united's own members at a higher price (similar to a qantas any seat award).

if the results you are looking at are indeed award saver then it should be bookable by USDM or lifemiles. or it may be phantom availability (which would be rare on united's own metal).

Very helpful thanks.

Would be you be able to point me in the direction of booking codes for 'award savers'? I assume it is something similar to QF being u for business, p for first etc? this means I could then set up an alert on expert flyer to be able to book if it became available?

i don't know. standard star alliance awards are O,I,X for first, business and economy.

i don't know what class premium awards come from or how they are allocated.

Just counted 62 different main meal options for flying TG F ex-BKK sectors ... makes pre-booking one meal a tough decision!!

Just wanting to confirm that absolutely no changes can be made once travel has commenced?

Boss is in CAN at the moment due to fly CAN-BKK-MEL on Saturday but would like to delay it till Wednesday. I'm 90% sure it can't be changed but thought I'd ask anyway.

I'm having the same problem for our F flights in less than 2 weeks!
Will I just take a chance and go with the on-board menu or pre-book our meals?

I had the same question.. but as I had 3 TG F sectors, I chose something unique on each one.. then figured I can always ask for more :D

I'm not a fussy eater, but personally even if there were 200 meal options, I think you could easily cull off between 50 - 95% of those options right off the bat.

Unless you prefer Lobster, I'd probably just chance on the standard onboard selection.

I agree.
There are mixed reviews about the lobster but I may have it for just one of my 3 sectors (just because I can ;)).

Exactly what I'm doing :D Doing it on my short HKG-BKK one so that if it's no good, I can have something in the lounge in BKK.
