US Dividend Miles - Award Booking Questions and General Discussion

$150pp.

I cancelled a booking a few months ago...miles were returned immediately...and the best bit, so far the cancellation fees have never been charged!

I've found hits and misses like this. Bookings to Europe have been paid with fewer miles, an example.

currently in SPU and just checked in for my flight to FRA where I overnight there to connect to TG921 A380 to BKK tmw afternoon. i spend 7am-7pm in BKK then onto SYD. my checked bags have been tagged to SYD where I should pick it up 60hrs later, fingers and toes x-ed that the bags make it ok.

You should be just fine :)

Actually, I intend to send my parents' bags at the end of their trip across the globe, too (EWR-FRA-LHR-BKK-BNE). I think that's about 60 hours or so, too. I've full confidence they should make it all the way. :)

cheers mate,
our bags travelled 48hrs last time so this time pushing it out a little bit more this time ;)

I arrived back this morning. Bags arrived fine even after 60h in transit. No priority tags added at SPU which meant I had to wait a bit in SYD. TG in FRA and BKK were both keen to ensure my bags were there because we had 22h and 13h transit respectively in those ports and it was a long time in their words.

Strangely, never had this before, after landing into BKK the assistant with the buggy told me that they were going to put me into the Novotel BKK Hotel for the day because of the 13h transit (6am-7pm) We declined as we had planned to freshen up in the lounge and head into the City for the day.

On this trip, we tried out the regular F, refurbished F and the A380 suite. I might do a TR down the track on the A380.

By refurbed F do you mean the one in the A346 ?

I can't remember Alanlegal's itinerary, but my guess was he was referring to - respectively - the "old" F (on the A346), the "new" F (on the refurbished B747) and the A380 suite F (which is a variant on the new F, or more accurately, the forerunner on the refurbished B747 F).

Yep, it was F on the B747 (10 seats), new F B747 (9 seats).

The 346 "old" F is still better than the 10F* 747 though isn't it ?

(*I mean the original 747 that still flies the SYD-BKK route some (most??) times)

Likely a much of muchness. I would probably prefer the A346 only because there is only 8 seats in the front.

For those that enjoy flying in the nose, the B747 is preferable. Also the pair seats for those travelling in a couple seem friendlier on the B747. Finally, the B747 nose affords some extra room (to walk, and storage).

Overall, I'd say the difference between both is immaterial. :)

the a346 has the worst first class of any aircraft in the tg fleet. it is narrow, cramped and suffers from galley noise in the front and business class 6 inches behind you. there is considerable traffic up the aisles and extreme proximity to your neighbours which is disconcerting given the seats offer no privacy (and in sleep mode you are half an arm's distance for your neighbours head).

at least on the 747 you have distance (still no privacy) and quiet. and on the a380 there is proximity but a marginal attempt to create some privacy with a low partition.

Wow. So from here we infer that: (a) you're hypersensitive to noise, and (b) you're quite antisocial.

Hyperbole aside, you do make a point, but I've been lucky in the A346 that I've never been in a full cabin. J cabin behind the F one, seems to behave themselves, too.

Oh, and you must have pretty long arms (basketball player?), because I'm pretty sure when I was in 1A on an A346, I would be lucky if my fingertips could whack 1D on the back of the head, without my also falling into the aisle. (Now why would you want to do that in the first place?) The exceptions are, of course, the centre seats.

I agree with all these. I've been in F in the 346 and 10F 744 and really wouldn't pick a favourite between the two. The 346 flight was I think 7/8 and I don't recall any privacy issues or excessive noise.

36 hour transit for our bags which included an 11 hour transit in HKG for us. UA priority tagged our bags in SIN however TG at some stage (either HKG or BKK) added their own Royal First Class tags to each bag as well. Did they not do that for you? For the first time ever, in CDG our bags were literally the first to come out - so that was a bit of a novelty

I liked the old F on the 747, Mrs Flashback and I had 1A/K and was good.

No our bags were not tagged, even though at FRA they said they retrieve our bags and do so. The c/i agent also told us that they would find us prior to boarding and advise if our bags had made it, nope they didn't do this either. However they did offer us a day room at the Novotel for our 13h transit in BKK though, does that make it even now? ;)

My folks will have a 8h transit at BKK (arrive around ~1500, depart around midnight)... I wonder if they will be offered a day room or just ushered straight to the lounge.

Of course, I'm hoping they will usher them to the TG F lounge (they arrive on TG F but depart on TG J - according to the popular word, they should still have TG F lounge access).

Yes, we had TG F lounge access (and a massage at the spa) connecting from TG F -> TG J (no F to PER).

I have no idea why they offered the hotel for us this time. They have never done so in the last three times we had transited BKK (4pm arrival, midday +1 departure), it is no prescribed benefit anyway so we weren't expecting anything. After all, we wanted long transits so we could head into town and thus had our own arrangements.

Anyway, FWIW, there are slumber rooms in the F lounge. I have never explored that part of the lounge before until a couple of days ago.

That's good - my dad could probably use a nap on the ground when he touches down in BKK :)
