US Dividend Miles - Award Booking Questions and General Discussion

Looks like I'm targeted, though I checked another member of my family and they are not.

However, it seems that the promo also applies (or may spread to) gifting miles.

Now let me get this straight. I am eligible for the promo if I decide to gift miles (I've checked). The gifting of miles counts the bonus against the recipient of the miles (not me, the person who is gifting).

This technically means that if you're buying miles for a family (or your friends, or non-family significant other), it doesn't matter much if they are eligible or not - you can just gift them all miles and they will get 100k. Is this right?

Now I'm not advocating that we all set up a syndicate to account for those who aren't eligible for this new promo.......

2 out of 3 accounts have the offer
anatOl - I am now madly dashing back to check the gifting!!!

** oh yeah - now all 3 get to boost their balance

Both of my sons have the offer. It is the best offer.

The 100% share offer (which is much rarer) works out considerably cheaper than the 100% buy/gift offer provided you have some miles to share.

PS: only got this new offer on one of our four family accounts.

I got the offer cove. Thanks for the heads-up :)

Question to all - Once the US and AA merger goes through, will we be able to book on QF, using US/AA points?

It's more if the merger goes through for one thing (some say it's just a matter of time rather than a question, but then again time can be glacial too).

But the short answer is "yes" (more precisely, your US points will convert to AA points and thus you'll then be in the oneworld system under AA's rules)

Yes this is correct. The giftor needs to be a member eligible to participate in the promotion but it is the giftee who gets the bonus miles, whether or not they are eligible themselves.

And one hopes that the conversion is 1:1 because US points are easier and cheaper to get than AA points.

I should have known this beyond a doubt, but just seems weird as it really does turn one account into a somewhat unlimited fountain of points (of course, you have to pay for them, but you get the idea).

The pundits say it is now on the record, so supposedly reneging on this conversion rate would be a harikari.

AwardTravelr is the easiest to use but it is not 100% accurate so I double-check using the ANA tool.

Thanks, after looking at Awardtravelr it seemed pretty easy to use.

Do you have to join the ANA Mileage club to search for awards? Trying to navigate through the ANA site and it's not so clear - can't find the award search engine..

Must admit it took a while to get used to the ANA tools.

First, join the club.

Second, select the tab for ANA Mileage Club on top of screen, next to tabs for Domestic and International.

Next, select Award Redemption. You'll get to page where the only option is to select ANA International Flight Awards. On the next page, enter any details in order to progress the search. I usually enter China (Beijing comes up by default) and Japan (I select Tokyo). Enter dates and number of pax. Click on Next button (in Orange colour).

The following page is where you can be more precise over in your search. After your selections click Use Star Alliance Member Airlines button.

Doing these steps a number of times will help you navigate easily. There are other tricks from the last page. Some other AFF members may help in making suggestions.

Yes, it seems to be a tedious task each time to log into ANA and go through a 10 step process to get to the 'Use Star Alliance partners' search page. Is there a 'save search' somewhere, where you can just jump straight to that process?
