US Dividend Miles - Award Booking Questions and General Discussion

Put it this way - it's worth trying for :)

Potential issues - London is actually your destination. this should be charged at 120K.

If they allow it as a stopover, you may still get charged the higher zone of 120K.

On the way home you may have some issues with the number of segments.

But as always with USDM, YMMV.

No, Washington is the destination. I'll spend 10 days there, just three in London. Will contact USDMSC and see what's their call.

Washintong is not your destination.

Your destination is determined by distance. LHR is farther from SYD than IAD.

In any event, stopping over in a higher zone routinely attracts the charge for the higher zone.

Sillier things have happened a bit more regularly than the rules would be comfortable with.

For example, I've booked BNE to EWR via LHR (stopover) for my parents previously. Talked to at least 3 different agents about this booking before it actually got ticketed and not a single one batted an eyelid about the routing (they were only iffy about the availability).

Of course, we can't argue with the rules, but like you implied, it's worth trying for anyway.

Well, had three pax travelling SYD-PEK-FRA in October. One pax returned FRA-PVG-SYD and was charged 90k. Remaining two continued FRA-JFK-IAD-IAH-PEK-SYD, all in J except JFK-iAD. We were charged 120k each.

so the 120K was for the FRA (Europe) being the higher zone than the USA at 110.

as for the 90... a USDM error..

your porposal above (via LHR) is similar, so I'd expect 120, and lucky if you can get for 110k.

You're right. I'll check when I make booking shortly.

The return will be IAD-FRA-BKK-SYD as other itinerary falls foul of MPM.

Hi All

I'm looking at the following for a trip in Feb/Mar and I'm wondering what flying with United in J will be like?
Will all J seats be lay flat parallel to the ground?

February 10 - Bangkok to Paris on Thai 930 in Business, departing at 12:10a, arriving at 6:50a
February 12 - Paris to Zurich on Swiss 647 in European Business, departing at 7:00a, arriving at 8:15a
February 12 - Zurich to Miami on Swiss 2666 in Business, departing at 9:50a, arriving at 2:35p

March 5 - Miami to Newark on United 1534 in Economy, departing at 6:08a, arriving at 9:00a
March 5 - Newark to Beijing on United 890 in Business, departing at 12:00p, arriving at 3:00p on the 6th
March 6 - Beijing to Bangkok on Thai 615 in Business, departing at 5:05p, arriving at 9:20p

Hi spudwa,

I believe the Newark - Beijing flight with UA is a 2 class 777-200 in which case the J seats will be lie flat.

Spudwa, I have no idea if they are lie flat, it was my feeble attempt at a joke. Luckily, NDiddy has a more sensible view. May I ask what you mean by 'points guy'. It sounds like the sort of thing / person I may need as I'm not making much progress cracking this otherwise. A PM if you prefer would be most appreciated, if possible.

Thai per-bkk-per will be sloped fairly flat, I think bkk-cdg is on the A380 which is full flat sogerma solstys

The "points guy" should definitely be able to advise (or at least have a good idea) which seating is lie flat or fully flat or otherwise!

But for whatever it is worth, the PER/BKK flights would be, to my guess, angle flat only (unless they are running the new TG 77Ws on the route). Same deal with PEK/BKK on TG. Of course the short flights - CDG/ZRH and MIA/EWR - will obviously not be flat to any shade or degree.

Not sure about EWR/PEK. I'd be surprised if UA don't operate this route with a newly refitted B772 with lie flat BusinessFirst. I'd be even more surprised if they run this with a 2-class B772 (although there is one 2-class config type where there is lie flat BusinessFirst). As always, configurations are very much subject to change (especially on UA).

Is that within the USDM handbook

Please explain?

I'm using my USDM's bought from US Airways not buying them from a third party
