So with Singapore it looks like any plane with the *NEW* business class or cabin first class won't get offered by Singapore. So the next question is what is *OLD* 747 era first class like. I'm only familiar with Thai first class which I found acceptable ;-)I can't see why not.....

I really loved the 747 in SQ First.I loved the lobster thermidor with the Krug champagne.
They are withdrawing the 747 as they get more A380s so take it if you can get it. We scored it on Saver which was a totally awesome use of points. In fact I would say that was the best value we have had on SQ points.
Just got an email form US Airways
Get a 75% bonus when you share miles*
Can anyone explain how I might use this to my advantage??
Easy. For a SINGLE transaction involving your account, you can either give, or receive (but not both), a bonus 75% of miles when you share with another person.
So... if you share 50k miles from your account with someone else, they will receive a total of 87500 miles in their account. The cost will be the 50k miles you share at 1c plus admin fee and federal excise tax.
OR, someone else can share 50k of their miles with you and you would receive 87500 miles in your account.
You can share UPTO 50k and get a 75% bonus for free.
However, unlike previous promotions, only a SINGLE transaction is eligible for this bonus. So if you share with someone, they CANNOT share back to you, or to anyone else.
Nor can any other person share miles to you (with the bonus) if you have shared with anyone else.
This offer is really ideal if you already have another person in mind and can use their account to buy tickets through. For example, you wife/mom/brother/sister etc. Assuming they had zero miles, you could share 50k with them, they would have 87500. They would then top up their account with 2500 miles (full price) and they would then have 90k miles to get a business class return to Asia from Australia.
(or it would work the other way too, if they had 50k lying around in their account they could share those to you).
So currently my wife and I have 115,000 miles which we want to use in the future for an F return the US.
Could we gift each other 50k and get 87k?
ok sorry to be annoying/dumb
BUT if I gave her the 50k miles could she later donate them to me pay for an airfare
This is how I understand it to be:-
Person A currently has 50,000.
Person B currently has 0.
To share miles, it cost 1c per mile transferred, so 1,000 miles = $10USD + tax.
Person A shares their 50K to Person B ..... this now becomes:-
Person A has 0.
Person B has 87,500
And the cost of the transfer is $500USD + tax.
For the 75% bonus to be applied you can only do it once per account (either as a gift OR as a beneficiary) so in the above example Person B who has now received 87,500 cannot send 50K back to Person A and also get the bonus.
However notwithstanding this promo's once only share condition, the argument for sharing miles if you have sufficient miles right now then you are really buying 37,500 bonus miles at a cost $500 + taxes. In the scheme of things, $500USD for 25% of points needed to get from Australia to Europe in First Class ..... now that's a good value.
I'll just quickly add a comparision, in the past 100% bonus promotion, to get 37,500 points one would have to buy 19,000 @ $27.50 per 1,000. So the actual cost would have been 19 x $27.50 = $522.50 + tax. Hence the share promo abliet is almost the same value as buying miles at 100% bonus.
Its back:
Get a 100% bonus* – that’s twice the miles!
Get closer to award travel or upgrade your next flight. Either way, you have just one month to buy miles and get a 100% bonus. Simply buy miles June 6 - 30 and you’ll automatically earn twice the miles – up to 50,000 miles for free.
Hurrah! And at US$1.07 exchange rate too. I estimate the cost for business class to UK / Europe at about $2350-$2400 all in. (Buying 50+50k, 20k) Thank god for TG!
