US Global Entry Program for Australian citizens [from 2025]

Basic question: Can anyone apply for this, or do you need to travel often into the U.S?

Ie: might go once every 3-5 years. Could I apply, enter if I choose within valid membership period.

Expect the answer is no.

You can indeed do it if you only visit once every five years, but why would you? The time savings wouldn't be worth the $100 USD (charged by CBP to join the program every five years, on top of any fee that DHA may charge)

The catch is that you cannot use it on your first entry after being conditionally approved, as you have to visit an enrolment centre in the US to complete the application.

If you're eligible for an ABTC you'll actually get better value out of it as it gives you access to aircrew/diplomat lanes at US international airports.

I think the time savings depend on the port and time of entry. I had a 2+ hour wait at ORD a couple years back. Wouldn't want to repeat that again.

The other major advantage i see is the TSA pre-check which comes with it. I'll usually do five or six domestic flights with every visit to the US, the pre-check would save considerable time.

Except that unfortunately it saves you no time on your first visit - in fact it adds to it significantly, as you have to clear normally then visit the enrolment centre landside.

Your domestics, yes, it can help with those.

Correct me if I’m wrong, I remember only US and Canadian citizens have TSA PreCheck unless one holds US green card. For others Global Entry is only for clearing customs and immigration.

I can say that I've had TSA Pre✓ randomly on USA domestic travel. Maybe 20% or so? Keenly waiting to become eligible for Global Entry across the USA as an Australian citizen.

And welcome to AFF. :)

Thank you. It’s nice to be part of AFF especially as a newcomer to Australia;-)

Still nothing concrete in place.

Landing in JFK at 1900ish late this year. Would they even have anyone available to do the interviews?

No, you can have pre check without green card or citizenship. However you can't apply for it directly. I still get it through the airline, but they have announced that this is ending. Global Entry will become even more useful then

No it isn’t but the agent said that my Global Entry is linked to both of my passports. I can enter the USA with either and they are eligible for Global Entry kiosks. As part of the application and interview process you need to enter details of all passports that you hold and also bring them to the interview. They were both ran through some type of machine.
Princess Fiona, I travel to the US several times a year on business (just got back to Melbourne yesterday and heading back over again in February)
My entry point is usually LAX - last year I nearly missed my connecting flight and last week I did miss my connecting flight, even though I arrived in the queue 3 HOURS EARLY!
I promised myself this will never happen again, my trips to the US are usually short and I shouldn’t have to factor in excessive wait times at LAX simply to make my connecting flight.
Is Global Entry still available to Australians?
Seems strange that Middle Eastern countries are Green Lighted but not countries like AU and NZ

thanks in advance,
Mark

The USA was always a huge pain for crews who needed to operate there. I've always thought that the easiest way to fix it would be to make them (US citizens) jumps through exactly the same hoops that they require of the rest of the world. I gather they didn't like it when one South American country started finger printing them.

Instead we make their lives easier without extracting the same benefits for our citizens.:mad::mad:

So that other site is reporting that upto 500 Australian travelers can participate in a trial of US Global Entry. Does anyone have details of how to (try to) become part of this trial? I have a few trips upcoming to the US and this would be a blessing!

The trial is still probably about two years off. Your best bet is to specifically fly Air New Zealand to Houston, where they have expedited security screening (there are "US Citizens/LPRs", "ESTA", "Air New Zealand Arrivals", and "Everyone Else" lanes there).

I sent an email to our immigration minister last month regarding the availability of the US Global Entry Program for Australian citizens.

I received a response today from the Traveller Policy area.

It appears that they did not realise the benefit of GEP is more than just Automated Passport Control - TSA PreCheck is another key benefit.

If you value the benefits of the Global Entry Program, please email them to voice your opinion since they are "actively considering" the program at the moment.

Before you ask, one thing I want to clarify is that the Australian government is required to perform the initial verification (Cost) for Australian applicants of the GEP program.
Let's use this time now to lobby the government so we can benefit from this when life returns.

Many other like-minded countries have it.

Looks like this proposal hasn’t gone anywhere as yet, COVID notwithstanding.

“… with a view to reaching agreement … by the end of 2018” (attachment to post # 20).

Maybe someone has heard more.
