US Immigration delays due Budget cuts

At YUL yesterday at 11:30, only around 20 odd people in the immigration line. Through in 20 minutes (fastest ever for YUL!)

US Immigration have a new toy at YUL they are trying out. They scan your boarding pass and then show you your baggage on a screen and ask if that's your baggage. The immigration officer said that they were trying it out at YUL. Anyone else seen this at other entry points? First time for me. I last went through YUL about a month ago and it wasn't installed.

I flew YYZ to LAX about 18 months ago and I experienced this then. It was a bit freaky suddenly seeing your baggage on screen and having to confirm that it is yours. Big Brother is definitely watching

Went through LAX this morning... probably fastest processing through Immigration ever and arrived at Luggage to see my suitcase coming out
Ditto through Customs :)
Of course I made a remark on the apparent quietness to the Customs Official who never rose above my expectations with his monotone, never look you in the eye or show some emotion response of "No it ain't" Feel sorry for people so obviously unhappy in their jobs.

Had this at YVR about 3 months ago, transiting to LAX. I walked right past the station but fortunately looked back about 10 steps later and thought " gee, I wonder if I should do that?" So I went back. Now I wonder what would have happened if I didn't go back and ID my bag?
