A

This far out there is bound to be some sort of sale happening over the end of Jan. Whilst yes it is school holidays here, it's still more than possible to find good deals over Jan, especially for International flights.

Possibly but it is a peak travel time.

The other thing is the request is for a ONE WAY flight on a specific date. The date aside, the one way suggests either a move of some sort, or the pax are getting over to the US via other means.... The point being that revenue fares for international are not usually on sale for one way sectors, and indeed one way pricing can be rather more than the half of the return fare that you'd expect which i suspect is a motivation for grabbing the reward seats.
