Greetings fellow AFF members.

I am hopeful for some guidance and tips on what I consider to be a dilemma.

So we are planning a trip to the US (partner and our child).

We are looking to fly into SFO and then go to MIA.

Here is is the dilemma bit.

I have enough SQ points to get me to SFO in J. I am keen to use the points before they expire! I feel terrible but the Mrs and Child don't have enough points and we can't justify J for the family on price. So...

if I can be really selfish and swing the argument that I can use the J fare (both to her and myself), I will need to source some fares to the USA for them where I can meet them. Given my circs potentially living it up in J, I would like to source at least a premium economy fare for them. We can't justify them coming on SQ given it is a roundabout way to get the states and it would not be fair on the young fellow. I am QFF Gold, but I presume this will be useless to them as I am not going to be with them.

I do not have enough points in QFF to source a PE fare for them so it will have to be a paid fare. I am not wedded to QF for them. So can anyone recommend a good PE carrier across to the US to SFO. QF is charging about $2500 for the fare (May next year).

So so a few questions:

1. Has anyone ever flown J whilst their family go on a different flight in a different class? Did alcohol just drown out the guilt?

2. Can you recommend a PE carrier to SFO and a general fare range for that route?

3. Is there anyway they can use my QFF status to at least get lounge access in SYdney before they depart?

4. When in the US and if flying AA can they come with me into the lounges?

Thanks for advice and guidance

Why not use your SQ points via Star Alliance airlines and go with UA to SFO via LAX or AirNZ via AKL to SFO, you up front - family in PE, and latter is a very good PE from all reports too. SQ will have new direct flight to USA via SIN but not sure when or commences or if they have PE on the sector. Can check flights/fares on the likes of Momondo

Family wont be able to use your status into lounges.

NZ PE is good. Why not fly with your family in PE? Or else manufacture some kind of "work" trip that requires you to fly at a different time in J. I wouldn't, though.

NZ fares in Y+ for May currently stand at $3800 or so.....

Specials often bring that down considerably.... but no guarantees of course....

Edit: According to ITA Delta seems to be selling Y+ SYD-SFO across much of May 17 for $1395 pr person... I dont know how good it is...but thats a killer price (Booking into W...is that Y+ on DL????)

Another Edit! LOL.... Answered my own question.... DLs Y+ is an economy seat with more legroom... priority boarding...and a few other little improvements.... SO..not like NZ or QF... but at THAT price? Id consider it myself....

Yes...you would be mad to let the miles expire....so you do have some tough decisions to make in concert with the missus!

Trooper. Thanks for the heads up! For that price, I shall definitely look into it.

Maybe I just take that fare and try to find another use for the SQ points. Had so looked forward to J in SQ.

You could book your partner in J on the SIA flight using your points and you and the young one take a QF flight enjoying lounge access on the way??

I'm thinking of the 'Status Credits' you get with your partner...
