USA via NAN with FJ

After experiencing J class too many times now, want to keep feeding my addiction and try J again however doing it with QF would send me broke.
Managed to work out some decent fares with FJ to the US (with a few stop overs) and it came to $3400. Earning 600 SC's in the process.

MEL-SYD-NAN-LAX-SFO-LAX-NAN-SYD-MEL

MEL-SYD-NAN leg booked on the QF website
NAN-LAX-SFO-LAX-NAN booked on the FJ website
NAN-SYD-MEL booked on the QF Fiji website.

A couple of things that can complicated this, since there are three different bookings, in NAN on arrival both times would need to clear customs, collect bags and re-check in.
If the inbound flight into NAN is late then you'd have issues getting onto the next flight either to LAX or SYD

I'm doing the same thing this year with both an LAX trip and one to HNL.
All in all exceptional value and I find the FJ service better than QF, however the equipment is pretty average.

Ive booked a night in NAN each way, however I think the risk of misconnecting is small as im sure your SYD flight is operated by the LAX aircraft.

Note that booking the second leg on the QF Fiji website will furnish QF flight numbers and resultant status bonuses.

Just booked the SYD-NAN-SYD / NAN-LAX-NAN, it seems the SYD-NAN leg is operated by a different aircraft to the NAN-LAX leg.
Just wondering if 3 hours is sufficient connection time?

A friend just comopleted this journey a month or so ago, using three tickets as described.

I was surprised that you do in deed have to collect your bags at NAN each time... i thought they would just through check.

They reported that having to do the formalities was a bit of a pain, but the break from the plane/transit area and the walk was welcome.

Connection times were not an issue.

BNE to NAN is booked on the QF site, should be $1500 return and include the option to go BNE-MEL-SYD-NAN VV for that price, if you are not interested in 360 SC via that routing you can always book a OW with QF then do a return on the FJ site: International & Domestic Airfares - Flights to Fiji - Air Pacific for FJD1237 one way which is saving $80 or so.

Who does OZ LAX return for $3500 in J apart from Air Pacific.

Limewood as your location is Cairns on your profile, you can book from CNS instead of BNE for around $200 extra each way on the NAN section and pick up up to 60 SC more each way.
The NAN run picks up 360 SC ($4.16 p/SC approx.), can be 480 ($3.96 p/SC approx.) from CNS and that is what is more important to some rather than cost.

You probably need to ask what is important to you, SC earned or $$ spent and time taken/ flights taken to get there.
Why not make a holiday of the Fiji portion before the US?

Been looking at any seat award for past week Aug/Sept/Oct in J OZ/LAX return for 2, about 2 weeks apart, have 393K points, had no luck (other than 23days apart late Oct/Nov), so CNS/LAX via Fiji could be an alternative but was hoping to use QFF points.

The Air Pacific web site shows a 747 flying SYD-NAN and NAN-SYD on some days. There's 28 x J seats there.
