Using credit card overseas, worth the point ?

Too much hassle deleting one card and substituting another.

It's a hassle to take 75,000 QFF points (current ANZ offering) for no fee and then make a simple phone call to tell them to cancel the card?????????????????????????

Heck you can even cancel via an internal email via ANZ netbank!

At the very least you could immediately cash those points in for WOW vouchers and get yourself around $450. If you don't want $450 for 10 minutes work, its definitely a hassle!

Don't shop at woolies and have plenty of points. I'm happy and not in a manic chase for points.

There is no extra rewards fee with the BW card.

Technically you are correct, as they don't identify a separate rewards fee as part of the $160, however the QFF Plat card is $20pa more expensive than the More Rewards Plat card.

Yes, that is so, but you may be lucky to time it to a juicy sign on bonus and, everything you spend on it will get points incl the dreaded aussie TO (not pselling that out).

28D will cost more in forex fees, but is great if you're not as into collecting points as I am.

The bankwest platinum has a $160 annual fee though compared to the 28 degrees cc

As you are entitled to be, but are you sure you are in the right forum? Not chasing points or status is pretty much regarded as heresy around here!

That was just ONE example of how you could use the points. A VERY poor example at that in terms of points value.

But if you earn more $2700 an hour, based on the original example I provided, or are a communist then I fully understand why you don't want free points.

Not sure why you're so incessant with your spiel. Depending on individual circumstances, your advice is outrageously irresponsible. Even under a best-case scenario it's extraordinarily annoying.

So I'm a heretic! Last year Mrs coco and I went RTW - mainly first class. I bought about $60 000 of airfares for about $5000. I used all my points and yet now I am back to about 200 000 QF points. I don't need woolies and I don't like them and I have had enough of changing CCs and bank accounts. Anyway the CC providers nearly cough themselves when you tell them you are an age pensioner.

Chasing status is more important than chasing points and you don't get much status shopping at woolies.

Coco50, you stated in the Ayer's Rock thread you "feel quite righteous climbing the steps to Centrelink" to claim your pension, and yet you say here you spent $60000 on first class airfares. Don't you feel that anyone with the spare cash to spend on first class airfares should not be leaching off the taxpayer and that Centrelink is really meant for more needy people?
There is nothing righteous about that situation

Actually, just an obs - coco5 says they spent $5K, not $60K.

Sorry my bad.
Same principles apply though, if you need government support, it hard to justify you're doing it tough, sitting in first class.

No problem justifying sitting in first class when I got there using points that I had earned while I was working. And I am not doing it tough.

Do not bother to bring AUD or USD to China and do not bother to try to buy RMB in Australia - China has a fabulous ATM system and they are on every corner. Daily ex rate set by Bank of China and always adhered to - cash out in China via Citi Debit card by far best way to go. FWIW I use Citi Prestige to pay every transaction poss in China and in every other country - cash last resort - but as always we are all different - YMCWV.

Totally 2nd this. I always use citi debit to withdraw in China. In GZ they wouldn't take my credit card, and it didn't work properly. So I used cash everywhere, and it worked fine (also in Shanghai, Beijing etc)
