Using QC Complimentary Invitation in LAX?

As a silver FF I have a single complimentary invitation to QC. Next week I will have about a 2 hour stopover in LAX and was wondering if my QC invitation alows my access to the lounge in LAX Terminal 4? The card says 'Valid for Qantas-operated lounges only. Not valid for oneworld or partner airline lounges'. When I check the QC web site it says that the lounge is operated by/for Qantas/AA. Do you think they will let me in so I can shower and smell good for work?!!!!? Or, shall I use it in Sydney for the 2 hour wait and get some food?

Also, does anyone know if it is possible to use the duty free shop in Tom Bradley even if you are flying out of Terminal 4 on QF? Duty free shopping was a joke in Terminal 4 last time I was there.

I am not completely sure on the lounge access question, but as it is marketed as a joint QF/AA lounge I think you have a good chance of being able to use your comp pass. Of course it will only get you into the Admirals Club lounge (QF Business Class lounge) and not the Flagship Lounge (QF First Class lounge). But it does have showers and they should also give you one ot two free drink vouchers.

I doubt you can use the duty free shops at TBI. In the USA, international departures are not isolated from domestic departures in the same way as they are in Australia, so their duty-free shopping is handles slightly differently. You need to show your valid direct international flight boarding pass to enter the shop. If you purhase something, it is packaged and delivered to the boarding gate for your collection as you enter the aircraft. I veyr much doubt the TBI shops will be able to deliver to a T4 departure.

But in most cases, I have find the DF shopping cheaper on arrival back into Australia. However, I did recently buy a duty-free 750ml bottle of Johny Walker Gold at ORD for US$52 which I tought was a better deal than I could get back home.

Yes, I did exactly the same 2 months ago at the LAX lounge on a invitation pass.

Duties are low and competition is fierce in the USA so duty free isn't a big deal there. Every grocery store sells booze in California and specials are at a lower price then the airport duty free shops.

Yep - the invitation worked a treat. Pretty good showers too. As for the duty free, well, I wanted to get some good quality tequilla - something you can't get at Sydney airport. Will buy in the grocery store as per Jim's post.
