Using Velocity points for Virgin Atlantic reward

Hi does anyone know how this works? I know you have to call Virgin Aus to book, which I've tried but they just ask you which flight I want and then tell me if its bookable or not. Any idea what flights I can use my Velocity points on (eg is it only Virgin Atlantic metal or others)?

Your best bet is to use VS/DL’s website to search for reward seats then call up VA to book. Still no guarantee that VA have access to those seats but according to anecdotal evidence from a friend it worked for a transatlantic flight from US into LHR.

To book Virgin Atlantic flights with Velocity points you need to call up.

Yes I know I need to call up Virgin Australia for Virgin Atlantic (VS) reward bookings.

Without having every flight thats available on hand and sitting on the phone with the wonderful VA staff for many hours, just wondering if anyone knows which VS flights (or their partners), can be booked with Velocity points. The previous flight I asked them about when I called (which was available as a VS reward - and it was on VS metal) wasn't available as a Velocity reward.

Thanks - I'm looking specifically to flights available to book with Velocity points under the VS (Virgin Atlantic) program.. not Velocity Rewards.

Sorry if I’ve misunderstood but with Velocity points you first need to check for availability of Virgin Atlantic award availability on the VS website. Best to check for dates around the one you are after and also for any other ports nearby. Write down all the details of flight numbers, times, dates etc and then call Velocity to book. VA may not have access to everything that you see on the VS website so be prepared to be flexible and you arm yourself with a list of flights that would be suitable and hopefully one comes back in the affirmative for you

I would add too that just because a flight is open for booking as a reward seat through Virgin Atlantic Flying Club or other partners like Delta SkyMiles, there's no guarantee that it's also available through Velocity. Found that recently trying to book multiple flights from JFK to LHR in multiple cabins. Velocity said no, but could book via Flying Club. The agent confirmed they were searching correctly for Virgin Atlantic as it's a different process ('long sell', where they input your name and details and create a quasi booking and see if it sticks). Expert Flyer used to be great for this and I've booked Virgin Atlantic through Velocity in the past, but now it's hard to find a way to confirm availability before calling, other than to narrow things down to flights that 'might' have seats based on availability through VS/DL reward programs, etc.

I just booked a return economy flight from London to Bridgetown in June. Took 50 minutes by phone only and had to be transferred once to get correct operator.

How did you check availability? Was the 50 minuts spend having the agent check various dates/flights or did you have some sort of idea already beforehand? Just curious as to whether the anecdotal evidence that you could use DL's availabilty is correct or not.

Spoke to 3 different VA agents in the last week who have all said that VS aren’t releasing J award seats to Velocity currently. I went through various dates with them and found Y award availability that matched to the dates I saw on the VS site but spent over an hour trying to find J seats.

I used google matrix airfare search to see the cheap days and planned accordingly, SKYscanner then popped up with a price reduction alert for the days so rang and gave specific dates...they were available. The first operator had a go but realised it was out of their league and transferred me to another operator who processed it. The first operator took dates etc. to pass on. Great service. Subsequently I went online to VS and ordered preferred seats.
