Utilising DSC promo for change of date

I have been delaying changing a flight to Narita, in case the DSC promo comes up soon. It's in a couple of months. I usually only use the promo on domestic flts as I book bigger trips far in advance. Can I change the date of a flight during the promo to good effect? If I cancel and book freshly it will definitely get double status creds. If I do cancel and only get flight credit though, I am concerned they can still only be used for flights worth less than the credit, and flights there have gone up.
So is a date change allowable as a new booking?

From experience, simply changing the flight during the DSC booking period will not trigger DSC.

You've always been able to use the flight credit towards more expensive flights.

It used to be a thing that you couldn't use it for fares worth less than the credit, but they recently changed this policy so now you can (the system will issue a new flight credit for any residual balance exceeding $2).

Thanks for that. Exactly what I was looking for.

Further question, do the dscs accrue even if you book elsewhere than Qantas? I would guess no?
So long as a QF PNR is created during the DSC period and the flight meets the criteria eg QF code, QF metal and travel within the travel period, its should be ok.

Others here will mention any specific exclusions.
