V Australia BNE-HKG?

Y+ would be good to add onto the route.
And as neither of the incumbent operators have a PE/Y+ capability on aircraft suitable for their ops on that route, this would be a great way for VA to differentiate themselves. But they still need to fill enough of their large cabin to make it work. I wonder if a MEL-BNE-HKG or even AKL-BNE-HKG may work? But the add-on service may cause schedule problems for a 24-hour cycle. But MEL-BNE-HKG would make for a good transit option for MEL people, eliminating the BNE or SYD terminal shuffle inconvenience.

I also think MEL-BNE will be DJ.

I was thinking they could do BNE-HKG-MEL-HKG-BNE-LAX-SYD-LAX-MEL-HKG-BNE and vv so that they can rotate the a/c around the different sectors.

I think HKG-BNE-LAX wouldnt work with the timings... I think LAX deps BNE at 10.30 am where as the HKG flight would arriv e at 10am

What about a connection on to VS through to LHR? Presumably they mean to have the flight connect on to their HKG-LHR service. Plus, it would allow for clubhouse time.. :)

Ahh, yes that too. Interlined fares with VS would be fab and would make VA a real alternative to QF/BA and other competitors.

How happy would VS be with VA muscling in on part of their current schedule? Admittedly they are SYD-HKG but there is still competition at some level.

As an aside, VA seem to be rapidly moving from an Australia to US airline to a much wider playground. I guess they don't see the Pacific route as recovering in a hurry or maybe it is hurting them a bit too much.

Maybe it would make it easier for VS to fill their double daily LHR-HKG flights (one terminating flight, the other continuing to SYD). VS in the past have murmured about entering the MEL market, but never BNE.

As well as the Y+ differentiator (which may be a good angle, a transit and extra 3 or 4 hours via SYD sort of destroys some of the benefit of Y+ ;)) , I think it would be the only J class operating out of Brisbane - to Europe - with fully flat horizontal seats, is that correct?

I guess there aren't that many routes ex-Australia not well served through Asia at the moment, as pointed out in an earlier post, KUL, SIN, BKK aren't probably that attractive given competiive environment. Maybe a MEL-BOM service connecting with VS at BOM, given the significant Indian population now in MEL?

I believe VS have dropped their BOM flights.

Aaah, there goes that theory. OK maybe DEL then? I guess the problem with India (which I think is QF's problem) is that unless just going from A to B the domestic transfers at both ends (AU & IN) can be a PITA. Much easier just to do a single changeover at SIN.
