V Australia ditch children's discounts

The public transport comparison is not quite valid...

On a childs fare on buses (in Canberra at least - probably universal) there is that little codicil that they must give up their seats to a standing adult...

In Melbourne a student travelling on a concession ticket must give up a seat, if asked. I've not seen anything about a child having to give up a seat.

That could be made to happen on flights also :!:

Who will be next, all the pensioners on $2.50 all day bus tickets?

Unless you are paying Y, W, J or F, you are in the non full fare discount group with childrens fares. So why single them out, as airlines are going to sell more than one ticket off them, i.e siblings, parents, etc.

Imagine if bus companies charged, like airlines - advance seat selection, discount whY tickets if purchased early, etc.

Well, that's what Monthly/Weekly tickets are for, or in BNE go card fares vs. paper ticket fares. :) Thankfully, there is no advance seat selection, fare buckets, premium class, priority boarding, etc. etc.

Also note that in some cases heavily discounted tickets (more in Y, not really in higher classes of service) may attract no child discounts. Not sure how airlines get away with that, but so there.
