Are they all on the new VA birds or a mix of VA and old EK birds?

Yes, except in this case it's an actual enhancement.

Are there now 4 new 332s and 2 old 332s or is it 5 and 2?

I would have thought they would put the new config on the more premium routes like SYD-PER and have the old config on routes like BNE-PER (or to DPS, NAN or HKT where it belongs!!!)

All the A330s need to rotate through BNE as thats where the maintenance is being done.

The VA website (not known for it's accuracy) lists 3+2.....

Maintenance is done in Melbourne. Hence those Sydney-Melbourne A330 flights, before they started A330 MEL-PER.

My wife and I was on business class on one of the older A330's on Saturday and it was horrible. Half the screen's wouldn't work, even the ones that did work were pathetic and the picture was jumpy and audio stretched. Even the software they have on the screens is old and horribly outdated. I expect much better when on Business class.

This was the last leg of a USA/Canada trip for us, and the entertainment system was the most disappointing of all the airlines we flew. And we flew economy on all the others....

Food was good, and the flight attendants were great as always but that's where it ended.

Had the new A330 on the way to Sydney 6 weeks earlier and it was far better. Like chalk and cheese. Is there a way to know which A330 you will get? They shouldn't charge the same as one is far better than the other.

Really disappointed.

Both heavy and most line maintence is Brisbane based now, JHAS in MEL did line during fleet build:

The Engineering team based in Brisbane Australia, have a number of permanent and/or fixed term contract positions available to support the introduction of the A330 aircraft into our business.

Ideally you will hold an Engineering or LAME / AME qualification with significant experience in an airline-engineering department working with A330/A340 aircraft. Experience on Trent 700 engines would also be well regarded.

I was on that damn old Emirates plane twice in the last week. Seats are buggered. IFE is cough. And speaking of cough, the left hand side toilets were out of action causing PAX to be bumped. The sooner they ditch this plane the better.

By "Ditch" I mean sell/retire... Not drop it in the ocean, although that would be a suitable end for it.
