Good morning to you all. A quick question. I am currently a Red member but will hit Silver in January 2014 and retain in June 2014. Once my June 2014 flights hit my account will i then recieve a new Silver card that will have June 2015 on it ?? I am converting to VA from QFF :-). Thanks !!

If you hit silver in January 2014 you will keep that same card till January 2015. At this time they will confirm you reattained silver and send you a new silver card valid till January 2016.

If you end up flying enough to reach gold they will send you a new card at the time of reaching that valid for one year.

To expand on samas' explanation -- when you upgrade tiers with VA, your anniversary date changes to that day/month and you have a year from then to requalify.

As someone who also started favouring Virgin Australia (once they started offering Business) and the Velocity Rewards program, may I offer congratulations on the upcoming status change.

Velocity is a generous reward program, particularly at the more attainable membership grades, and its not that hard to qualify (and keep) Silver.

It is fairly easy to redeem award seats (plus the 50% points bonus for Silver gets you there quicker), and decent Velocity promotions run frequently. They are pretty quick to acknowledge membership grade change too, so you'll be Silver before you know it :D

Thank you all very much - about 95% of my trael is the MEL > SYD run so it would be easy as such for me to keep Silver. Looking forward to the $300 lounge membership which too me will be a very big difference to my airport experience
