I'm pretty sure it has not been reinstated.
It is not going away until Nov. 19th.

"Fly Ahead is available on Virgin Australia domestic Economy Flex fares for flights operated by Virgin Australia. Fly Ahead is not available for Gold members on Economy Lite fares, or for Group bookings.

From 19 November 2021, Fly Ahead will not be available on Economy Choice and existing Elevate fares"

There is no indication in relation to Economy Award seats

I just checked section 8.6 of the Velocity T&Cs which says:

A Fly Ahead request is not guaranteed and is subject to these rules:

  • Not available to members travelling on group bookings or Economy Lite fares.
  • For Platinum members, Fly Ahead is available on Business, Economy Flex and Economy Choice fares.
  • For Gold members, Fly Ahead is available on Business and Economy Flex fares. Fly Ahead is only available on Economy Choice fares until 19 November 2021.

No mention that Reward seats are or are not eligible. So if it is currently available on rewards I would suggest it will remain that way.
