Virgin Australia have just released some cheap fares to Dallas. Not exactly sure why (maybe light loads now) but these are even cheaper than fares to LAX despite flying through LAX.
Travel dates:
07JUL15-04SEP15
06OCT15-10DEC15
17JAN16-31MAR16

Prices might vary by a few dollars depending on departure city and date. The $1074 price was taken from a search of Sydney-Dallas in July/Aug. Flights on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday will be about $50 cheaper each way compared to Friday, Saturday, Sunday flights.

of course they are not in school holidays....

Because QF is having a sale?

looks like they both (VA and QF) cant fill the aircraft syd-lax due to the aussie dollar being a tad unwell compared to the greenback....looking on seat map/expertflyer a lot of the flights are leaving half full....this is friday 27 feb qf11 syd-lax load....

Remember you're just looking at a seat map there. Some people (unbelievably) don't choose their seats before they fly and are only allocated at the airport when they check in.

true...but even if 50% havent chosen their seats (shock horror) its still a sad sight....

Not that unbelievable when QF charge $25 a seat.

But quite right the seat map means absolutely nothing

I'm waiting to see some discount business class fares for SYD-JFK to appear for September. At the moment a return flight is about $8,500. Looking to see a fare for less than $7,000 to appear which was the case last year when I did the trip to NY at the same time of the year.

UA currently have a business class fare for just under $6,000.
