Hi all,

For trips that leave Australia and end up overseas on VA metal, are codeshare fares possible for onward travel if there are multi-day stopovers involved?

If so, does anyone have any experiences or opinions on doing so to maximise points earn? In my specific case, I'll be looking to fly DL within the US with the international legs on VA.

Thanks to all who reply.

US rules do not preclude the use of VA codeshares even with stopovers, so you are free to do so.

There are a number of rules that do restrict the use of codeshare flights within the USA and sometimes it can be more expensive to use those flights. The fare rules will also restrict what you can or cannot do for stopovers, for example some of the cheaper fares do not allow stop overs.

If you are still after the additional points- the best way to look at fares would be a VA thru fare to the first stop and then out of your last stop .... You might be able to push another segment on each journey if that fare type allows stopovers ( but be careful if there is a fee for stop overs) Best to go to a travel agent fo that kind of fare/ booking . It also might be cheaper to just buy the AU-LAX return and add the additional segments as DL or VX prime flights

You cannot buy a stand alone segment on a VA*DL codeshare flight within the USA ( eg a ATL JFK could not be bought as stand alone codeshare flight)

Unsure if you have any status - but the VA and DL points/SC earn difference is not that great ( if any depending on class)
