I went to upgrade a flexi to J online and have been waitlisted on my Perth to Sydney flight tomorrow afternoon.

This seems to be a new thing for VA. I wonder if status has any influence on upgrade priority.

Has anyone else had any success after being waitlisted.

I believe waitlisted upgrades are processed for VA Plat/Gold prior to UpgradeMe bids, the waitlisted Silver/Reds are processed last.

Have you checked the flight aware or expert flyer website to see what sort of aircraft is doing your flight?
If its a 330, success might come tonight, or at the gate.
If its a 737, oh, 88888 comes to mind.
I have had a PER - SYD successful bid upgrade on the VA 330 about a year and a bit ago, nice.
The result came through before I got to the airport though, VA PS at that time, so was able to try the VA lounge at the old PER T3.

I've successfully wait listed for a domestic points upgrade this week. The upgrade came through circa 36 hrs before the flight. No notification from VA but noticed it through seat alerts. As a data point I'm platinum

Checked EF plenty of J seats available.

Velocity website is down so can't check.

Will have to wait and see what happens at checkin.

Not happy at all now !!!!

No upgrades available according to Gold desk, which is OK.

Flight has now been delayed 8 hours which will mean it is now a red eye in Y. Would rather poke sticks in my eye's.

Will try again in the lounge and considering the delay I would think it reasonable to upgrade pax who are waitlisted if there are any seats available which there is.

Rant off.

When I've done lounge upgrades and been told no seats, they've held on to my BP until boarding time, and if there's any un-sold seats, they should be able to upgrade you on the spot.

Usual 'catering not guaranteed' warning, but they've always had something for me!

Gets better wrong Gold call centre explained situation re delay, she spoke to her supervisor who approved the upgrade based on the circumstances, happy days.

Arrived at the lounge to check in sorry you have been downgraded as the aircraft is now a 737. Asked re changing to VA570 no problems there are plenty of seats but none in business.

Check on VA'S website and they are still selling J seats on VA570. WTF.

I will just have to drown my sorrows in the lounge for the next 5 hours.
