VA Double Status Credit Offer

Pretty sure they are able to (and do) make all J seats available to points/WP upgrades a few hours before the flight.

This happened to me in OOL several weeks ago where there was only 1 seat left in J. They had to cancel my ticket and re-assign or something though. It wasn't the normal upg process

The system has the capability to do all sort of upgrades etc... its what they staff are 'allowed' or 'willing' to do that is the issue.

Another positive benefit for Golds/Plats that VA could introduce (at cheap cost to themselves) would be to make all J seats upgradable from saver and flexi (comp/points) within T-3 at the airport.

This +1

Would be good but see your first point... having observed this first hand its not simple, quick, nor it seems, widely understood by VA staff how to get the system to accept the change, if they even have the access to do it.

Upgraded a Saver using points at the lounge an hour before a Sydney to Brisbane flight. Website showed no availability for Reward J. Process was quick and easy. On the plane all business class seats where full.

I think senior status VA members would revolt if qualifying levels were as you suggest.

I think we can take on all 10 of VAs true senior status members ;)

Personally I think for the benefits and more importantly the quality of the benefits you get from VA their qualifying levels should be a bit lower.

Feels like a lot of people are sliding down the ranks on Velocity now.

Whilst I know you say this tongue-in-cheek, I know at least 20 Platinums in Virgin who have all retained it since the inception of the level (some were comp'd from Qantas, others had flown enough already).

That said, I am often the only Platinum in business on the coast-to-coast services i've noticed (when I get a glance at the manifest).

If enough AFFers post in this thread do you think VA will have a change of heart?

I'd guess that their decisions to run these promos are based on some very detailed statistical analysis. If they're not looking for a particular type of boost in a certain area then they aren't going to run them.

It think with the easing of the capacity war and the battle lines now set, double SC promos are a thing of the past for either of our two airlines going forward. Instead we have program's that will be less rewarding and status that is harder to earn. The gravy train has gone.

A DSC offer would certainly put bums in seats .

As VA SG & husband as WP, am really hoping that VA consider a double status credit offer soon. We have stayed loyal to VA for a number of years, however since selling our business (interstate) a couple of years ago, retaining status has been more difficult. The DSC offer gave us the opportunity to retain WP & SG (& continue our loyalty to the airline). Am sending positive vibes to VA ...... maybe a great Valentines Day promo??
