It would be great to even see a special offer for AFF members. What do you think ?

I know I'll be in the minority, but I hope they don't. Status should be earned by flying (either lots or with the wallet open). Gifting too many offers too quickly left VFF with an almost desperate look last year. All they have to do, is fully implement the changes they've already committed to and then be seen to be CONSISTENT rather than desperate.

Mind you, if they do and then ignore me and other backstay frequent flyers, like they have done previously, they will achieve nothing but hammering those coffin nails in a little further!

i guess we will agree to disagree then . :)

I probably wouldn't be aware if I got a double SC offer, because I'm still not receiving the damn emails! Preferences updated, updated, updated and still nothing!

If VA continue to lose customers because of the Sabre / website stuff ups then a DSC is probably inevitable

One thing I've seen since coming here that can be annoying is when people query about being upgraded to a new level or maintaining the same level by their review date hoping that the line in the sand gets moved in their direction.

The levels are there for a reason & you should know what those levels are. If you are close to a milestone & a deadline's approaching, just do what you have to do to get over the line. If the program does upgrade/maintain the status & you're short of the mark, good luck to you. But don't rely on it. Don't rely on DSC.

Having said that, I think that if you travel during a DSC promo, you should get the DSC regardless of when you booked it.

It's a hard job making everyone happy. Some complain that the lounges are too full... Some complain about not being gifted SCs. Some complain about both! See where I'm going here..?

Let me say , I won't rely on DSC offers to do my flying to maintain status. It was simply an observation that i was pointing out . To be honest i don't expect it will happen as I personally don't think they know how to do it , or , not on the priority list to do , with the implementation & integration of Sabre which has to be the running joke of the Australian Aviation business.

I wouldn't be surprised if they will let some of the "Earn Status Credits on redemption flights" credits wash out of the system before doing another Double SC promo.

I also think they time these things to target fallow times or routes that are underperforming.

As someone who was content with my lot back in the semi LCC day (when they had a few lounges but little else), I've been increasing shafted by VA in their hunt for more "upmarket clientele" (remember Fawlty Towers with the Lord and the brick in his briefcase?) and I do get a bit agrieved by the calls for more freebies...at my expense, because that's what it is!

I (and many others) have flown the miles to receive status, silver back in those days (where gold needed 50 000 points) with a paid lounge subscription and the rug has shifted below me....not entirely to my detriment, but certainly to my financial disadvantagement. Some want more and more, but I was happy with what I had and to really rub salt in the wound, VA bent over backwards to throw enticement to their non-loyal golden geese whilst kicking the loyal dog with steel capped boots.

Lucky for them the dogs are predominently loyal but golden geese usually just cough and leave..............

Oh, BTW, I wonder how many golden geese are still pecking around the scraps at the VA camp?

Plus one completely.

The Lounges are full enough, I'm missing out on Row 3 (as a Plat) too often and the op-ups are far too thin on the ground.

Last thing I need is more Platinums who haven't earned it the hard way like I have taking benefits away from me.

Selfish? Maybe, but 80+ sectors a year in Y- is hard yards so I reckon I'm allowed to be.

PS - if you've earned it legitimately without DSC or status matching assistance, fill your boots!

I understand how you feel entitled to higher benefits by "earning" WP the "hard way".

But if you do 80 sectors in discount economy, the reality is VA: very likely loses money on all your benefits, probably on every flight.

I'm not saying you shouldn't get WP, but you shouldn't feel more entitled. VA probably make a lot more money, of people that fly a heap less and are lower status than you.

Comp'd in the status match to WP.

Requall'd two years in a row. Family pooled so my partner is WP too now.

Prior to the status match, all flying was Qantas. I'm usually on flexi fares (due to last minute bookings) so they've made it work by comping me status.

EDIT: obviously VA WP wasn't introduced until September 2011, but I have requall'd for my current status year.

You are probably absolutely correct, I've considered this in the past.

However, I cannot quell the overwhelming sense of self-entitlement and DYKWIA!!

My partner was getting heaps of promo emails I wasn't, even tho I'd opted in for every form of email possible.. A email to the [email protected] at the time fixed this issue as they did something which got the flow going again :)

haha. agreed.

Whenever something goes well (ie OPUP), i get a major dose of DYKWIA when it's actually just luck.

Yes and there are others just like you and I have absolutely no issues with that. But the shambles that occurred after the SM comping was what was really irritating. Offering people renewed status by whichever means, when all they really earned was red, was a kick in the face to everyone who earned their status, but my annoyance is not with the people who accepted a free lunch, (I would have too, given the same situation), but it is with VA and VFF marketing idiots who think it's good business to P*#* off your most loyal clients to chase new ones.

I do also agree with your comment about us BIS -Y flyers being just the type of client VA probably doesn't want, (I've said exactly the same thing many times), but let's not forget that VA fares have skyrocketed over the last 2 years and a VA -Y flyer is still now paying a whole heap more than they were 2 years ago on VA, are paying a whole heap more now than on JQ or TT, don't get offered the really cheap sale fares anywhere near as often or anywhere near as cheaply and the cheaper buckets have shrunk in size as well. I don't think it's an entirely fair conclusion that we don't pay our way. ;)

(Oh and as an after-thought, that last situation has been brought on by VA/VFF marketing idiots as well. Under the old Velocity system, status was earned with points and points were earned with coin. The more expensive the fare, the more points the more status........they decided to change to the zone based method. VA status use to be a whole lot harder to achieve than it is today)
