Have had a good look on VA and here but cannot find the answer to the below:

If I'm travelling in J can I guest 1 person travelling on VA in Y? (No Velocity Status)

Officially, no.

Business class guests are not entitled to any guest allowance, unless travelling companions (which include children aged two or over) are also booked on a business class ticket. Infants under two years old are exempt.

Although It surely can't hurt to ask.

Doesnt seem to be enforced...walked straight in without question after flashing BP!

Must say the food and beer selection is far superior to QF these days as is the runway view from Upper lounge in SYD!

Doesnt seem to be enforced...

As a sideline to the question, I've noticed when on a J fare, the entry machine displays just one button....guests "0", despite me being platinum. I use the BP for the scan and I'm not entirely sure if you can use your card for registering on the machine, but it seems J overrides platinum with the BP even though platinum is entitled to more guests. Not a problem, of course, just an observation.

You can use your card on those kiosks - scan either the chip or the Barcode.
