Hi all,

Unfortunately I missed an unprotected connection today due to a combination of Melbourne weather and Qantas taking 50 minutes to get my bag off a plane. I called velocity after checking closed and they said they couldn't cancel the booking as it was inside 24h.

Should it be possible to get a refund of taxes at least? Flight was on Etihad.

I'm sure VA could somehow accommodate the taxes being refunded. Unfortunately, due to thunderstorm activity at a lot of airports yesterday there was a delay with baggage.

Can you claim travel insurance?

They might refund you the taxes but they are under no obligation to do so and I wouldn’t be shocked if they said no. All you can do is ask.
Unfortunately with the delays and cancellations these days I’m finding myself booking overnight stays between domestic and International connections if on different tickets and I no longer have any faith that even a 4hr connection will be safe anymore

Real taxes maybe. Any carrier surcharges would be up to the carrier.

The wording is a touch ambiguous but I think you are entitled to a refund of the Passenger Movement Charge at least:
