Hi guys,

I'm a Velocity Plat flying REX out of Melbourne tomorrow afternoon hoping to get into the virgin lounge. Won't technically qualify under lounge access T&Cs but wondering if any others with velocity status have had a friendly wave through in these circumstances!!

Scan your card on the machine to let yourself in.

Have never used those machines...there's no requirement to scan a boarding pass? There also won't be a Virgin booking tied to my freq flier number that day.

Scanning your card on the machine could make it look like you are flying. Not sure if the desk gets notification or if they are not busy enough to notice.

You are not entitled to access if not flying VA that day. They may allow you access if you ask nicely but be prepared for rejection and finding yourself a nice little corner to sit in the terminal.

id just ask, theyll probably let you in - im only a lounge member and they welcomed me in last week in SYD when i was flying on QF with a guest who was on VA

Sounds like QF priority boarding - "You're not entitled, but just line up and ask anyway, they'll probably let you in."

If you scan the card no need to scan the BP. However I am pretty sure this will just spit back an error or denied as I am pretty sure it checks the system to make sure you have a booking linked to that account for the day.
Although I have never tried this myself. I guess on a morning when they are busy you could just try the walk in flash the card and hope they don't notice/check any further. Never done this myself though but could work

I always use the self entry machines with my card for convenience, but I'm pretty sure it cross checks with the system that you have a booking that day... Perhaps just give it a shot and see how you go.

Good Luck :)

There was a time when it didn't check - but it rejected me last weekend (arrivals access). I had to go to the desk.

I've always wondered about that! If I'm ever coming in post flight I've always just handed my boarding pass over in case the system rejected the card... Answered my question.

Thanks for all the replies. It was a polite no on this this occasion as it's peak hour on a Friday which is totally fair enough. Staff member did however say they usually would let you in during non-peak times.

Incidentally MEL line machine allowed me to enter on arrival last week without issue

Wonder if this applies to gold. Will have to try next time im not able to fly virgin...

In Sydney its usually a flat 'no' but in Melbourne they tend to be a more relaxed and accommodating... based in my own personal experiences.

I fly Rex sometimes. Sydney have always let me in (their argument being there is no Rex lounge in SYD), but Rex have a lounge in MEL so I've never tried. In quiet times you are a better chance. Knowing a few familiar faces helps too.

I thought Rex did have their own lounge in SYD!

I flew jq to bali last week, I'm a virgin lounge member, scanned my card in at Melbourne no worries into the Virgin Lounge

I was let in at MKY through the staff at the desk even though I was flying Jetstar. And just scanned my card in BNE and got in also flying Jetstar. So I am not sure if the machine checks if you have a booking with them for that day
