VA partner bookings... here we go!

While having to call up is a pain (as is the general lack of award availability with VA) there are at least no fuel surcharges when redeeming on *most* airlines.

Virgin Atlantic is, of course, in that 'other' basket: recent co-pay amount on a one-way HKG-LHR Upper Class booking was around A$360 IIRC - and significantly more if you're also flying out of the UK rather than into it as the UK APD applies.

Just a quick one - thanks all for your help and tips. Ironically couldn't find anything on VA (or SQ) even when calling up and spending 53 minutes with a fumbling phone operator. Pretty frustrating again. End result: points remain marooned in VA! Thankfully I got a J class via QFF for my travel.

I will update as well. Booked a J seat on SQ as I could not get any J/F seat on any QF partner within a week of my departure date. Saved a few hundred dollars in fees/taxes also.

VA won the 2016 Freddy Award in the following categories;

  • Program of the Year
  • Best Customer Service
  • Best Redemption Ability
Don't forget to vote for them again this year! :p

[As an aside, I agree how awful VA is to redeem, being based in PER. Europe and USA is difficult, unless you want to fly EY - which I don't given the surcharges and the state of AUH. Luckily, I was able to find a J return to Europe this year on SQ, without having to transfer the points to Krisflyer. And the call centre - don't even get me started. If I get reminded "Availability is subject to change" one more time . . . "

If VA spent as much time as they do soliciting people's votes for stupid industry awards like the Freddys that their customers don't care about, on - say making more award seats available, then perhaps there would be more chance people could actually redeem ;)

This might be a dumb question. If I see saver awards on the SQ search engine does this mean they can be booked through Velocity? When searching on the VFF search engine it only appears to show flights under the VA codeshare numbers, not the SQ flight numbers?
